The point is there is a lot of correlation at the top to top teams with us being a complete outlier in this regard
if you ran a regression analysis of this I'm sure it would validate your claim. It isn't hard to see that teams with better statistical numbers have a better chance of winning over the long run.

To Burrow's credit he has been making plays when it counts. Plays such as WR drops and good plays such as throw-aways go against his rating.

Burrow will continue to be a statistical anomaly if he continues to make plays when they count and not so much of a stat builder. With that said, his QBR should steadily get better as the season progresses, especially if the WRs stop the drops.

I'm not saying it's on Burrow but it is indicative of some problems that the offense has as a whole

The throw aways come from breakdowns in protection or the WRs not getting open either due to scheme or ability

Drops are a problem that haven't gone away yet so it still affects us

I've kind of noticed a trend with the offense. It seems that the offense is pretty efficient starting games implementing the pre-scripted plays. I believe that can be attributed to the prior week practice. But as soon as defenses adjust that's when the offense struggles because we fail to counter adjust. Maybe E is adjusting but the plays that he is calling are not practiced as much so the kids are not running these un-scripted plays as efficiently as the pre-scripted plays. I don't know if that is on E or just a function of this offense just being a relatively new group of offensive players trying to mesh. The offense should get better as the season progresses and they develop more chemistry.

Or maybe he's just not a good playcaller. (i'm not even making this claim, but it makes just as much sense as any other argument)

The metric is relative to competition, specifically defensive competition from both a pass rush and pass defense standpoint. No one in the top 7 has played the level of defensive talent that we have played. It’s an interesting, but irrelevant stat at this point.

We are going to have to get a 2012 Mett type performance vs. Georgia and Bama. He and Burrow look similar early in the year, but Mett came out of nowhere and lit Bama up for 300 yds. Burrow is going to have to come out of nowhere and have similar production vs those 2 to have any type of chance.

Jarvis and Odell bailed Mettenberger out constantly vs. Alabama in 2012. I remember it vividly.

We ain’t got Jarvis and Odell this year.

Yea, but in 2012 we didn't exactly know what we had in Jarvis and Odell. There were complaints of too many drops for both of them leading up to that game. I guess the whole offense decided to show up just in time for that game. We will need the same fortune to have a chance.

“I am not saying LSU sucks”

No one is, but 17 games and 2 OCs in....the LSU passing game is leaving a hell of a lot to be desired.

I don’t understand why that can’t be stated without people getting all pissy about it, but each to our own.

I guess the running game, defense, and special teams must be playing pretty well. The passing game just needs to catch up.

You can discount it all you want but it seems to be highly correlated to on field success
i've been posting stats showing that when ens is actually trying, lsu's passing stats are not unacceptable. the problem with the overall numbers is that they include 6 quarters of football where lsu had a large lead and dialed back the offense. burrow is among the national leaders in yards per completion.

even more interesting, it's not like teams are loading up the box to stop the run. lsu is staying mostly in pass protection and only sending 2 or 3 receivers out against sometimes as many as 7 defenders in pass coverage. yet, burrow is still hitting 50% of his passes 10+ yards.

I honestly expect it to improve
i do too and the reason why is because as lsu starts playing better conference opponents, ens will be forced to keep the foot on the gas for 4 quarters. the auburn game is clear precedent. it's the only game out of 4 where lsu couldn't afford to let up and ens delivered.

When is the last time that LSU beat Bama? Do you still believe that there is no need for change? Ensminger racked up a grand total of "0" points the last time he called plays against them. To have a chance to win the West, the passing game has to be much better than what it is. No team beats Bama by running the ball right up the middle.

College passer rating is weighted heavily towards yardage and TD's. It's not truly a measure of efficiency.
