I have a friend who was raped several years ago in circumstances similar to this. A guy at a party she was at asked if she wanted to go to the store with him. Her male friends told her he was cool and she shouldn't be afraid to go with the dude. On the way she started feeling the same affects as the victim in this article describes. She said he took her to some deserted place and started pulling her clothes off. She said she told him no and tried to stop him but she had no control over her motor functions. I despise rape, it is one of the most deplorable sins known to man. I try to not judge other people, but it is difficult to not want to beat the frick out of anyone who rapes a woman or anybody. These stories should be a cautionary tale to young girls and women, it's something we should tell our daughters so they will beware of men they don't know. Sad stories, terrible men, brave women.

Considering Larry Nassar and this case it may be time to close MSU.

Yep, you think Dickie V comes out guns a blazing on Izzo like he did against WW. I mean, this is real bad stuff here. My guess is no. And he gets mad when you call him a hypocrite.

Thread title makes no sense. You imply LSU is being treated more poorly in the media than MSU is, but you link an ESPN (ie media) piece reporting on a MSU rape coverup.

Kowalski has not filed a police report, although her attorney, Karen Truszkowski, said "that is a possibility."

These type of Title IX complaints/investigations shouldn’t replace official police investigations into whether or not a crime occurred.

Certainly I'm not saying this woman is lying, but rape is a VERY serious crime. For both the victim and the accused. It should be investigated by law enforcement and if warranted, prosecuted in a court of law, not some mickey mouse bureaucratic process on a college campus where the rules in place in our criminal justice system don't apply.

The lawsuit faults the staff of the MSU Counseling Center, where Kowalski sought help within days of the alleged assault, saying officials made statements that deterred her from reporting the incident to law enforcement, and at one point saying, "If you pursue this, you are going to be swimming with some really big fish."

The lawsuit also states that the counseling staff did not inform Kowalski of her right to report the incident to MSU's Office of Institutional Equity, which handled complaints of sexual violence under the Title IX gender equity law.

Indeed. But colleges use Title IX investigations to cover up what is happening on their campuses all the time. A student can get in more trouble for academic dishonesty than sexual assault.

A friend of a friend was being routinely stalked and harassed by a male law student at LSU a few years ago. They reported the incident to the Title IX office, as female students are encouraged to do, and it genuinely shocked me how inept and non-effective the department's response was.

I told them from jump street that they should have reported the incident immediately to law enforcement, so that proper measures could be taken.

I'm not always a fan of police officers, but that is THEIR responsibility. For some reason, University officials prefer to handle borderline and outright criminal matters on their own. Few, if any, other entities in American society attempt to do such things.

It amazes me how contemporary society has made it seem like it is such a heinous and despicable act to "judge" others. Before many younger people give their opinions these days, they all seem to constantly preface it with "I don't mean to judge you/him/her/it".

frick that. There are moral gray areas in life that may warrant some reflection and empathy towards others before outright condemning their actions. However, rape has, is, and never will be acceptable in any context.

Rapists should be either castrated (at minimum), imprisoned for life, or executed. Any individual or organization who is complicit in rape is both vile and wicked beyond reproach.

Agreed. Why not file the damn police report then?? If she says she was raped then go to the authorities not just the school Title IX rep.

These stories sound terrible but claiming that someone raped you yet not filing a police report seems extremely odd.

The difference is that Michigan St has been covering up and denying these charges for years and the national media has held their feet to the fire on only rare occasions. For the example the last 2 days. Izzo denied knowing anything in the Fall of 18 and was offended that the accusations were made. Since then nothing in the National Media until this week and if the young lady didn't speak out it would have faded away. I literally stumbled upon it yesterday in the paper, saw nothing on TV, etc...From the day all this came out no national pundits talked about it. God forbid they talk about Izzo that way.

LSU on the other has been torched for almost 35 straight days. I bet the above story has been talked about less than 7.

Sorry if my title didn't make sense, but this Wade thing and how we've been treated by the National Media has pissed me off into the Insanity Realm.

I mean, I don't want to jump to conclusions and assume that these players are rapists, but good lord the story she gave is horrific and detailed. lock em up for a long time if it's true. lock her up for a long time if it's false.
