Ok, This is the first time I have been worried about an LSU secondary in a very long time. What are you expectations on which guys will stand out and help the defense? Specifically cornerbacks.
1. Sevyn Banks
2. Mekhi Garner
3. Jordan Toles
4. Jarrick B Converse
5. Damarious Mcghee
6. Laterrance Welch
7. Jaelyn D Robinson

Toles is gone.
Where's Richardson?
But the biggest thing,
Jarrick is far and away #1

I’m excited for the season but my expectations for the secondary and offensive line are pretty low until proven otherwise.

I’m not that worried. This is an older veteran group. All of these dudes have played A LOT of football. shite Richardson is 24 years old. Fouche is a 5th year and a former team captain and has started for 3 years. Sevyn Banks missed time with injury but he’s a SR and has played a bunch.
I don’t think these guys will be freaks like we’re use to. Banks and Garner are probably the most talented. But JBC and Banks and Garner and Richardson have all played A lot of football and I expect the mistakes and blow coverages to be at a minimum. Which lost us the Arkansas, UCLA and Auburn game for the most part.

Yep. If it’s true that Richardson has been locking down Boutte in any significant number of snaps as reported, I fully believe the coaches’ assessment of his meteoric improvement during the offseason.

Toles is gone, but CB should be fine. Converse will play the far side and he was 1st team all big 12 last year. I think garner will be the near side corner and he got faster/has that arrogance that’s usually needed to be a great corner, but sevyn and Richardson will play a lot too. Lots of vets who won’t make many mistakes. And the scheme will help them as opposed to asking them to play man every play. I’m more concerned about ILB (specifically against the pass) because of the relative inexperience…

This list is missing one of the guys taking snaps with the ones and Toles is in the transfer portal.
The Freshmen have passed up all of the non-transfers.

Hoping for some good contributions from our safeties here as well!

IMO
This year’s secondary has the lowest ceiling an LSU secondary has had in a long time. But it has a very high floor. A ton of cfb playing experience in that group and all of them are solid players even though none are elite level players.

This is a pretty fair assessment, though I think Garner and Banks have potential to be elite.

What are the height on these guys?
FSU will be rolling out WR's that are 6'7", 6'4", 6'4", and 6'3"

Hopefully the D line is as advertised and possibly make the cornerbacks jobs a bit easier

The outside corners are big, there are some question marks but size isn’t one of them.
Nickel is a bit undersized.

Banks had an injury set back, I believe. He wasn’t with the 1s or 2s this past weekend

I primarily want them to know their assignments.

I don’t think it was anything new…they have had held him back from most of the 11 on 11 contact stuff for all of camp.
Reading between the lines a little, it seems like they feel comfortable enough with their depth at corner to try to treat the cornerback spots as two separate positions, with Bernard-Converse and Garner as the field side corner and Banks and Richardson on the boundary side.

Banks is hurt regularly. Not sure how much he can’t be counted on

The experience will help. House’s scheme, which has often squeezed teams and taken away big plays and forced QBs to earn yards with smart throws and accuracy, should also help to balance things. If these guys execute, they will make it hard on teams to hit big shots.
It also doesn’t hurt that the guys we picked up from Arkansas played a very similar scheme under Odom.

It’s not true. I promise you there is not a college defensive back in America who can go toe to toe with Boutte.
I can remember decades ago watching Rickey Jackson getting handled by tackles and tight ends in preseason…then the real season rolled around.
