Official Playoff Matchups have been announced.

LSU will be the #7 seed playing #10 seed Arizona at home April 16th at 12:30.

With a win LSU will travel to Salt Lake City to play #2 Utah.
(Not sure how Utah got the 2 seed over St. Mary's but I'm not complaining.)

The seeds are not listed on the matchup page, but looking at it I believe I have the seeds correct.
*Seeds may be wrong but matchups are correct

Great stuff!!

Does the program have enough funding in the bank to fly the team out west to Utah?

Should LSU win in Utah, what's the next likely destination? Also, same financial question...?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the UREC will help out with traveling to Utah.

If they manage to knock off Utah they will probably travel back out west to St. Mary's which is outside of San Francisco.

If LSU makes it this far the club will probably have to try and raise funds through donations or a fundraiser to make the trip.

Maybe LSU will allow the "Not LSU" Rugby Players Auction. Haha, jk.

Man I hope that the UREC/LSU does help out.

Last year the LSU WLAX qualified for the national tournament but LSU nor the UREC were helpful at all. Granted, the national tourney was during the 2nd half of the week of finals, but there were 2 weeks to make adjustments for the players. It's done for baseball, sotfball, & track (when necessary), so it's not aa if it was such a rare occurrence.
But it was a firm "no" from the get go.

Does LSU not allow for crowd sourcing? You know us old dudes can chip in from around the country if you can give us a link. Bulawayo!

The school has never had funds to help out much. We welcomed what we could get and raised the rest.

in your opinion, what are LSU's chances in this thing?

They seemed to wipe the floor with every opponent other than A&M but they were playing with 2 men down in that one I believe.

are we just a pretty good team in a weak conference (nationally speaking)? or do we have the players to take this thing home?

Just a curious Tiger fan that played a little high school rugby thanks for keeping us updated!

So awesome to see the Tigers ranked so high at Rugby!

Would be great to see LSU become known as a Rugby School!

I've talked with Coach Red and he said that the goal for this team is to make the Top 8 (beat Arizona), anything after that will be lagniappe.

They should be able to beat Arizona but knocking off Utah will be a challenge.

The Red River Conference is very weak outside of the top 3 teams, LSU, Oklahoma, A&M. Most the other teams are able to field a decent team athletically speaking but they are just not that good at rugby. Oklahoma just got back from a spring break trip to Jamaica where they played and beat Jamaica's National team.

Though it's clear the D1A polls think that the conference is very weak. They still have LSU #14 despite the undefeated season. I guess it's more impressive to lose by 40 to top competition than beat bad teams by 40.

Thanks for the insight

Im going to try to make it out to the SAC field on the 16th. Will there be enough bleacher seating or should I bring a chair? also is there a tailgating atmosphere at all? should I try to get there early and set up a tent or anything or would I be out there by myself?

Red's doing well. Unofficially retired from cabinets/woodworking (more time for rugby). Now he's off to Cabo for a week, living the good life.

Coach Scott McLean is running practices in the mean time so the club is in good hands.

Bring a chair, the bleachers are tiny and ill positioned. I'm usually standing the whole game. We've been trying to get better bleachers for years, but REC always say "Get attendance to X# and we'll look at getting bleachers."

There probably won't be much if any tailgating going on. But now that you've raised the thought it sounds like a great idea. There is a no alcohol policy at the field (REC rules) so you'd have to tailgate outside the gates, either in the Hay field lots or Levee lots nearby.

LSU UREC foes allow for crowd sourcing. Both men's rugby & women's lacrosse have run a fundraider thru eteamsponsor.com & had some success. The women's lax team raised over $7000 last year.

The trick is to have the fundraiser submitted to the UREC in time for their approval process. That usually takes at least a week to get a final answer out of them for most anything.

I'm not entirely sure how donations work within the UREC. Especially in regards to ensuring that the donation goes towards rugby and not distributed among all club sports. I recall that this used to be an issue when I was on the team.

Individual donations have to be clearly designated towards a specific team. Otherwise, UREC absorbs them to the general fund for all teams.
There are forms that UREC can provide, once you perform their ridiculous song & dance requirements to get anything actually done by them.

Time change update.

The game will now be at noon. Not 12:30.
Same place, same opponent, just 30 minutes earlier. I assume it has something to do with not wanting it to run too close to the Spring Game.

Game time has been changed to 12:00.
