Where can one find all time rugby records? LSU ever won it all? Also, why did LSU change conferences?

The SEC (SCRC) rugby conference only came into existence 4 years ago. LSU has gone 4-0 in rugby matches against the Tide since then. (Unless you want to count a forfeit from last year while the club was suspended) Before this there was an annual SEC tournament which was won by LSU or Tennessee each year. There is no way to trace back records but I can with full confidence say that LSU rugby has not lost an A-side rugby match to Alabama in the past 20 years.

Now as for why the conference change. The simplest answer was an upgrade in competition (Jump from D1AA->D1A). There was decent competition at the top with South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida, but for the most part the rest of the SEC was, for lack of a better term, garbage. Most SEC teams couldn't even field a B-side, and LSU's B-side could beat most SEC teams. (No that is not hyperbole).

Another issue was travel. With club sports, money is tight. So the closer the conference the easier the travel. The farthest LSU travelled was Austin. Much easier than Gainesville and Atlanta.

A third issue which is a little more complex is how the SCRC wanted to switch to fall only competition for 15's (normal rugby) and play only 7's rugby in the Spring. Because of this the SCRC isn't even sending a team to the D1AA playoffs.

Due to these reasons it was an easy decision for LSU to move to the Red River Conference.

tl;dr SEC (SCRC) rugby sucks. LSU has not lost to Alabama in rugby this millennium.

Also, a little lagniappe. LSU has won it all before. Back in 1976. That team was lead by Bob "Big Red" Causey, the current head coach of the team.

Also a little info to give you an idea of recent history of the club. The current coaching staff of Red or Scott McClain as head coach are in their 10th year. They have lost maybe between 15-20 games total over that decade. This is even more Impressive considering LSU has done this using non-scholarship domestic players (as opposed to giving full ride scholarships to foreign players) to go with an unpaid coaching staff.

Tigers Win, Clinch Conference Title

The Tigers maintained their perfect record today on the road at A&M. Though this time, the opponents didn't make it easy. LSU won a nail-biter 32-30 . LSU had a huge lead late in the game but the Aggies came back to make it interesting. After LSU was called for back to back yellow cards, A&M was able to push across 3 straight tries with the Tigers down to 13 players. LSU was able to hold on for the win and clinch the Red River Conference Championship.

LSU Rugby finishes up the regular season next week in Waco against Baylor. After next week the Tigers will have a month off to get healthy and prepare for playoffs.

Correction: LSU does not play Baylor until April 2nd.

I saw Rugby 7 on 7 games on TV probably last year but only once or twice. Are any of these Rugby playoff matches televised? If so any idea what network it will be on?

Thanks for the updates and info.

Home games have been streamed on YouTube. The game today was supposed to be streamed on usarugby.tv but it didn't work. The D1 Championship will be live on an ESPN channel, either ESPN or ESPN2. LSU has very little chance to make it that far. The final will probably be 2 of 3 between Life, Arkansas State, or St. Mary's. These teams are just to much for LSU. Full-time coaching staff, full-ride scholarships, international players is just too much ground to make up for. LSU might make the semifinals (Final 4) which will be for sure on ESPN 3 and possibly ESPNU.

Independent of D1, the Varsity Cup final which will probably be BYU v Cal will be on NBC I think.

tl;dr
Playoffs should be streamed, semifinals and finals should be on an ESPN channel.

Eta: If you want to know more about or just watch a game for the fun of it there are Pro rugby (Super 15) games on ESPN3. Also check out the BIG Rugby Thread on the More Sports Board.

D1A Top 20

LSU continues it's steady climb in the rankings to #12 after a 32-30 win over Texas A&M. Only one team remains in the Tigers path on the way to an undefeated 9-0 season. LSU has already clinched the conference title but they are still fighting for a high playoff seed. LSU's final game of the season will be in Waco against the Baylor Bears on April 2.

Also congrats to LSU prop Christian Brower for being named to GoffRugby's list of "Gamebreakers" for his performance over the past few weeks.

It looks as if GoffRugby put the list together by naming the 15 most dynamic players in the country by position over the past month.

D1A Rankings 3/15/16

Unfortunately the Tigers fall a spot in the polls after a bye week. They are sitting at #13 after flip flopping with Arizona.

But it doesn't matter. The Tigers have already clinched the conference and a playoff spot.

After confirming with Coach Red, I've learned that LSU will be hosting an opening round playoff game.

They will play a to be decided opponent on April 16 at the SAC Fields just past Alex Box towards the levee.

The Tigers finish up the regular season this Saturday in Waco against Baylor.

After already clinching the Red River Conference and a playoff spot this game may not seem to matter. Winning this match however, will go a long way to ensuring the LSU hosts a Round 1 playoff game. Baylor is 3-2 on the year with their only losses coming against Texas A&M and Oklahoma. This will be a huge game for LSU's momentum going forward into the playoffs.

I predict a huge Tiger victory by 30+ points to finish up a perfect 2015-2016 season.

On another note, LSU dropped another spot to #14 in the polls after a third consecutive bye week. (West coast bias. Kidding.... not kidding). A big win Saturday should help make up lost ground.

Red River Player of the Month - Christian Brower
Congrats to LSU Prop Christian Brower on being named D1A Rugby's Red River Conference Player of the Month. He's been a huge part of this teams success this year, doing it all from scoring tries to controlling the scrum.

Sure thing. There is one more home game. LSU will be hosting a first round playoff game on April 16. I will update as soon as I get more information. Opponent and time are still to be decided. If I had to guess, I'd say the game will likely be at either 12 or 1 against Arizona or Cal Poly.

Games are free to attend.

A correction on the overall record. LSU finishes 13/14-0 with all but one game won by 30 or more points. I will try and find scores for the remaining 5 games that I haven't listed.

9/12 Texas State (W)
10/2 Loyola-New Orleans (W)
10/16 Baton Rouge Men's Club (W 61-0)
St. Louis University (W)

That's all that I can find. So I'll go with 13-0 on the year.

LSU will open the first round of the playoffs at home against Arizona April 16th at 12:30PM.

It is a 12 team playoff with the top 4 having 1st round bye. Arizona is 6-5 on the year.

Arizona Schedule:

Grand Canyon (W 59-3)
#2 Saint Mary's (L 3-73)
#6 Utah (L 31-39)
New Mexico (W 51-12)
#9 Lindenwood (L 5-88)
#3 Cal (L 12-61)
#14 UCLA (L 12-18)
#24 Arizona State (W 29-17)
Colorado (W 56-12)
Notre Dame (W 47-10)
Oregon State (W 73-3)
UCSD

(Goff Rugby Report Rankings used as it ranks all divisions not just D1A, rankings haven't been updated in a couple of weeks.)

LSU is #13, Arizona is #22 in the Goff Rankings. I will update when the rankings are updated.

LSU will be without their best player Brennan Falcon who will be traveling with the USA U-20 National Team to Zimbabwe for the Tier 2 U-20 World Cup. Arizona will likely be missing 2-3 players.

LSU will be the favorite at home but it will not be easy. At this level of rugby, LSU needs to be on it's A-game to avoid the loss.
