LSU quarterbacks not backing down from competition in spring practice

Next week, LSU will begin tailoring reps to the players that deserve those extra opportunities. The LSU quarterbacks are expected to be no different as the early goings of spring practice are in the rearview mirror.
“We wanted to try to make sure that we were fairly equal across the board,” head coach Brian Kelly said over the weekend. “We’ll start to now tear that work going into the second week and begin looking at rotations and things of that nature.”
Four quarterbacks are vying for the starting job with Myles Brennan, Jayden Daniels, Walker Howard and Garrett Nussmeier are taking reps in spring ball. Under the direction of offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, once again, LSU’s offense is looking to move back to the modern era of college football. Get playmakers in space, Brennan said.
“It’s gonna be awesome. We’re going to spread the ball around,” the veteran signal caller said. “I know we’ve said that in previous years, but getting the ball in our playmakers (hands) and make them runners. That’s the term they keep using, just make them runners. Let them get the ball and go make plays.”

Great to see all of them embracing the competition. Iron sharpens iron.

Now there's a new concept.

Myles obviously has a significant head start, but we’ll see if Daniels can catch up. The cohesion with receivers will be the most important thing especially as we start playing SEC teams, so I’m excited to see how that develops. May the best man win!

Not sure if Billy meant “tier” here.

And all QBs are working under a new OC, so no advantage to anyone there.
I don't think any QB has a head start.

Myles sounds enthusiastic for someone who is going to get beat by Daniels .

We won’t know anything until after we see Daniels scrimmage with the first team.

Max was NOT up for this competition. I wish him well, but he bailed instead of balled, and so, now he's Tiger Bait!
Love seeing this competition. 4 good QB candidates. Love it!

Yeah, I don't think Brennan has a head start. It's a new staff none and a new system none of these guys have play in. Brennan obviously has some rapport with team. But, like you said, he hasn't taken meaningful snaps with any of them in nearly two years. And even though he is in his 6th year, he has FAR less experience than Daniels.
Before Daniels transferred in Brennan was the de facto starter. Now, it is more probable than not he won't be the starter.

Thanks for bringing actual Tiger Sports talk to the board and not lame arse trolling and admin/ new coach bashing.

Last week I would have said Daniels is the guy. I was pretty confident. But Myles has not backed down and looked really good in the scrimmage Saturday. While Daniels missed some throws. Now, Daniels was playing with the second team, while Myles with the first team. So I don’t judge Daniels much off of that. But word is Myles looked really good. I’m not so sure about the competition anymore. We’ll see where it goes.

Cauble said that Daniels did not look sharp in limited action. Didn’t look accurate and decided to run quickly. Not sure if that was planned and also it’s very early.
Nuss is the dark horse in this race. Word is he has made big strides and looks really good (in the same limited action).

Pretty lazy stuff from them, CC. Picture is from last year. Billy should have caught that.

I guess that's why it is a free article

You must not have heard what people who go to practice have been saying. He’s been a team leader and has impressed on the field. He goes first in every drill and took all of the 1st team reps in the 11 on 11 on Saturday. He has been reminding everyone about that arm of his. He’s winning right now, but Daniels could catch up.

Kelly alluded to Myles being in much better shape mentally and physically since Kelly asked him to stay. I’m guessing Myles was going through some things the past year and a half. But he’s here now and he’s not fricking around.
