his plays at QB during his freshman year resulted in timeouts, false starts, delays of game and botched plays.

Rs got man handled early on in his career. Jj and at times lee took a beating. Shepard wouldn't have lasted one minute at qb running the option.

Playing QB like that does not win you games in the SEC, unless you are Manziel or Cam Newton and have an arm.

I still can't believe we never utilized his limited passing skills on a hb pass

We had real running backs with better arms than RS - AND they threw halfback passes!

This is correct.

Shepard went down at first contact, had poor hands, and fumbled too much.

Maybe he was mis-handled and had poor coaching, but the kid just didn't produce as we had hoped. He had plenty of chances.

Spencer Ware had one of the best arms on the team. Best hands outside of Juice as well.

I still think he will be a good 3rd down back in the NFL. He really can do everything well.

My resume isn't any near as good as Miles, which is why I trust him to make personnel decisions.
Nome sane?

So there is a problem with qb recruiting? Because I'm under the impression it's been pretty darn good lately. Before that we lost one to MLB and another to stupidity.

One could also read this as an indictment of poor evaluations by recruiting services (sometimes, for QB's anyway).

He had a couple nice plays on jet sweeps and handoffs out of the backfield. He wasn't a natural WR and it showed. He also didn't have anywhere near the arm strength or accuracy to be a "pro-style" QB that Crowton would have forced him to be in his system.

A phenomenal athlete that never could really find a place to shine. I still appreciate him for devoting 4 years to LSU when he could have gone literally anywhere.

Which goes back to the OP. No one was offering RS a shot as an elite D1 QB, except Miles. RS came here and did little. At any position. Yet ends up in the NFL?

Either Miles knows way less about QBs than most coaches, or he puts too much stock in rating services. Which also means he knows way less about QBs than most elite coaches

I can't argue with your logic. I don't know of one, not a single major college coach that has ever, ever made a mistake in recruiting. Nary a one.

Thanks for pointing that out to us. You are a rare treasure.

So why didnt they redshirt RS? A redshirt year would have done wonders for him IMO

Do you actually believe that another year would have some how magically given him an SEC caliber arm?

ok

They didn't RS him because they're seriously considering starting him maybe/perhaps/could be.
