A recent article ranking the projected SEC quarterbacks wasn’t kind to the purple and gold, with only some of the reasoning warranted. Myles Brennan was the projected starter by 247Sports, with Brennan coming in No. 11 among other SEC starters projected at the position. Here’s more on the reasoning behind the ranking.

“The odds-on favorite to start for the Tigers is Myles Brennan or Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels, but ask anyone closely-tied to LSU football and they'll all tell you the same thing this summer — keep an eye on Garrett Nussmeier, who has continued to impress Brian Kelly and the offensive coaches this offseason. Remember, this ranking consists of projected starting quarterbacks, and by the end of the season, it would not be a surprise to see Nussmeier as LSU's best option at the position.”

First and foremost, the best case for Brennan being ranked No. 11 among SEC starters is because of his unavailability the last two seasons. There’s honest concern about what he’ll look like in a game like situation after two injury riddled years and that’s fair. However from a talent standpoint, Brennan can far exceed these expectations.

Shannon Terry had his fun and took his circus to On3 . I know it's slow times but I am only putting out what comes out.

“Myles Brennan is our projected starter by the staff here at 247, but Garrett Nussmeier is the projected starter by the staff here at 247”

Clown article, they’re begging for clicks

QB is one of the only areas of the team I'm not concerned about.

I think all four of these guys get drafted at some point

I'm guessing it wasn't a 247 article given that they didn't link it.

Or ask the thousands of fans who post here, or follow the team at all through various media.

I think all the talk of Brennan being injury prone is lazy.

He's suffered two freak injuries. To me, "injury prone" is always being dinged up with ankle injuries, pulled muscles, joint strains, stingers, etc. Just continual injury after injury.

well, he's not been available to the team for the last two years, so there's that

You could argue LSU has the most talented QBs in the SEC

I’d put us ahead of UGA and Bama is a push

Whoa now. I’m high on our QB room too, but Bama has a heisman winner in the room with experience.

ETA: if this post somehow bothered you, re-evaluate your life.

You could argue that but Bennett has a lot of Matt Mauck in him so in terms of having a steady hand at QB for a loaded team he is perfect.

I don't think this is as much of a knock on Myles as it is a compliment to what Nuss brings from a skill standpoint.

Either way, if Myles comes in and performs well and the team wins, all of this speculation goes away. At the end of the day it still comes down to how the OL performs.

Brennan has started exactly 3 games in 5 years...against pretty weak competition (teams that went a combined 8-21 in the 2020 regular season). In those three starts he was inconsistent (vs MSU), decent (vs. Vandy) and really good (vs. Missouri). But that is still a very small sample size to automatically assume he is a top 10 QB. (Though he certainly could be)

Daniels started out hot at ASU and has progressed downward since. 2020 was a throwaway year in the Pac 12, but he wasn't great last season. Again, could he be a top 10 SEC QB? Absolutely. But given he hasn't played a single snap at LSU or in the SEC I'm not going to automatically assume he is.

Nussmeier has essentially played one game as a "starter" (he was the de facto starter vs. Arkansas). In that game he wasn't great. That includes throwing terrible interception in OT from the 9 yard line. Once more, the tools look to be there. But to say he is a top 10 QB is premature.

Correct. But when a player gets labeled as "injury prone" it's assumed there is something about him physically that leads to these repeated injuries, such as a lack of conditioning or weakness.

That is not the case with the two injuries he has had. The odds of either of them repeating are virtually zero.

So yes, he's been injured. But there is nothing about those injuries that suggest he is fragile, or is any more likely to be injured in the future than any other player.

Nussmeier will inevitably be the named the starter in the fall and it isn't even close.

As according to various reports, Nuss easily was the best and most consistent QB in the 15 spring passes and he also through a lot less interceptions relative to his competition, and then we all saw the spring game where Nussmeier was easily the best QB on the field.

Hence, for all intents and purposes, Nussmeier has already won the job. I mean, if I was Nuss and they handed the job to someone else after all the success he had through the spring practices and in the spring game, I would transfer so fast it would make BK's head spin.

Meanwhile, Kayshon Boutte who has watched all the QBs practice since like forever, has also said Nuss needs to be named the starter because he says Nuss will lead LSU to the most wins and another championship if lucky. As Kayshon is one of those Tigers who believe LSU is going to make another run at a title in 2022.

Not to mention that Kayshon Boutte has everything riding on the success of the upcoming season. As his entire draft stock hinges on it.

Hence, who am I to question Kayshon Boutte's judgement. I also highly doubt Brian Kelly is going to want to go into the season with an angry Kayshon Boutte.
