Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Johnson likes Thompson a lot. I wouldn't be surprised to see Thompson get work at 2B,SS, and 3B and Pineda get work at 2B and SS as we go through the summer and fall. Johnson may give Thompson the opportunity to improve and get the defense figured out before moving him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Thompson start the season at SS and Pineda at 2B. If Thompson starts the season defensively like he did this year then you will see a change. Best part about it is you know Pineda can handle his own at both MIF positions and he can swing it so he is a big get for the infield.

Johnson has already talked about how versatile Thompson can be. I don't think he's married to the idea of him staying at short.

I agree. Johnson won't have a problem moving Thompson. I'm saying I think he will give him every opportunity to stay at SS first. If it doesn't work, Pineda will be the SS and Thompson will have to move to 2B or 3B.

Yea, that is something I keep thinking about myself. I have no good answers though. I don't think he will be in the OF. 3B,2B, or DH is really all I come up with. He hasn't played in the IF much other than scrimmages though. Not sure if he will play on a summer ball team after the draft and he makes his decision. If he does, we should have an idea of the plan by the positions he plays or summer. If not, we will have to wait until the fall to see how they plan to use him.

I like the experience we can have up the middle next year. Crews, Pineda, Thompson, and Milazzo.

When Thompson first came here I thought he would be a 3B so absolutely he'll be free to play anywhere 2B/SS/3B now with Cranford transferring out.

I cant imagine johnson will reward him for coming back by dh’ing him.

I’d guess that the reason their percentage is low is that they get the hardest balls to field.
Fielding percentage isn’t always the best stat for a shortstop unless it is just outrageously bad. Their range can play into errors a lot. Some guys can just get to balls that others can’t.
This was the knock on Jeter. His fielding percentage was great but his range was not great especially late in his career. Analytics show that Jeter was not a good fielder.

I don't think you make any promises for him to come back. He will be given every opportunity to play a position, but if he gets beat out by other guys he may not have a choice but to DH. I'm just not sure he will fit in the OF and I'm not sure how he will handle an IF position. I think he can handle 2B or 3B, but we will have to see how it plays out.

Im thinking he plays 3rd as of now.

Just ripping some highlights & reading it bit, I can’t see Pineda not playing SS. He is really good defensively.
They’ve had to desperately red-alert Thompson off of of SS the last two seasons. And if they had a respectable backup he likely never gets that job back. He is a starting player in this program but I think you will see a move made early on for him to start practicing at a new spot while his reps at SS are cut down

I finally agree with you on something, they didn't bring the SS from Baylor to play second.

Pineda at short and Thompson at 2nd is a very good middle. Hopefully Thompson stays.

I can't argue or disagree with that from what we have seen on the field in the 2 years Thompson has been there. Whatever is best for the Tigers to win is best for me.
All my previous comments was based off what I think will happen because Johnson is high on Thompson. Just think you might see him stick at SS a little longer than some might think until he plays his way off of it for good. Thompson's summer in the Cape will tell a lot. He has played in 2 games so far and played SS in both. He also already has 1 error in 2 chances. He is listed as a SS/3B on his Cape teams roster.

Goodness some of you guys are impossible to please

I mean I think he likes Thompson, but he tried to move him off of SS during the season. And the 1st position player transfer he takes is a 5th year, all conference caliber SS. Sometimes you just need to read between the lines

Does this indicate that Jay thinks Romero won't make it to campus?
