I'm still stunned that we elected not to go for it on the 4th & 1, and I'm posting this to show you why. LSU ran 7 plays on a 3rd or 4th down against Kentucky with 4 or less yards to gain. Below are the results of each play:

3rd & 1 - 2 yard run - 1ST DOWN
3rd & 4 - 5 yard run - 1ST DOWN
3rd & 1 - 11 yard pass - 1ST DOWN
3rd & 3 - 5 yard run - 1ST DOWN

3rd & 2 - 1 yard run - 4th Down
4th & 1 - 14 yard run - 1ST DOWN
3rd & 3 - 10 yard pass - 1ST DOWN

86% conversions on 3rd/4th and short situations, and 3 for 3 when we needed just 1 yard. Really disappointed in the decision to punt there. Just go take it.

Yep. Leavitt was getting easy 4-5 yards on QB draws on 3rd down all game.

It really was an easy call.

Very bummed he punted but hopefully he learned his lesson to trust his gut.

Not saying it’s always a go situation but you could just feel that we needed to end the game there imo.

Just mind numbing shite. Blake showed you time and time again his defense wasn't going to make the stop.

Sam can pick up 1 yard on the ground in his sleep. Could have QB sneaked it or scrolled him out with a RPO or ran an option play.

We hired Lane to make decisions like that and he fricked up. He will learn from it.

We won't be relying on the defense in these situations moving forward

Everyone could feel it.

No Kentucky fan wanted us to go for it. And no LSU fan wanted to punt.

The Kentucky kicker missing that FG kinda fricked us. Because if he makes it, we go for it and likely are kicking a game winning FG with time expiring.

Leavitt does some boneheaded things at times with the turnovers, but he is really hard to stop coming out of the backfield. He comes out seemingly full speed with reckless abandon. Stopping him from running forward for a yard would be really tough, so I wish we had run him. But hopefully it's a painful lessoned learned that will serve us better for the future.

The only time UK stopped him on a run was that weird QB sweep where we seemed to run backward and lost a yard or so. Not sure what the design was. Otherwise, they couldn't stop him.

Yep, and this offense is just extremely difficult to hold to less than a yard when we have 10 guys blocking. We do such a good job matching hats for hats and finding the soft spots.

Even if Kentucky stops us there (for the first time in a 3rd/4th & 1 situation all day), I'd tip my cap to them and fully respect the call from Lane. Punting it and losing that way just sucks.
