The Reed loss was much more significant last year compared to this year. He was our only experienced post player and could also hit the 3. He could pull the bigs out which opened up the lane once he was injured you had Collins and Chest who had little to no offense at all. They packed the lane daring them to shoot. This year coming off the injury he still wasn’t 100% but he would have been good for 8-10 pts and 4-6 rebounds a game and would have still been a 3 point threat. Miller would also have more room to maneuver when Reed would move outside. He was a key depth piece this year. But people who supposedly know basketball on here are ignorant to this point.

would frame it that he was a significant loss that was overstated.
And you would be wrong

and didnt we in fact know just that, that we were funded around the level of the other cellar dweller south Carolina?
Then why have McMahon’s recruiting classes generally been in the top half of the conference? I do not believe the lack of funding rumors to be fully true. MM’s first recruiting classes ever here was ranked higher than many of WW’s.

It is the portal where LSU has lacked funding. I don’t care what rankings say. Players prove their worth on the court. Notice Chest has done nothing at OM yet was supposed to be the top player in LA when he came out. This years transfers have been the most productive in Mcmahons 4 years and coincidentally the year they increase funding to basketball. Go figure. I know it goes against the narrative of the people that wanted him fired. That’s why I choose to judge him on this year. Like I said if he doesn’t make the tournament it’s time for a change.

Because it’s inconvenient for your fairy tale.
McMahon has a 14-40 SEC record. Todd Golden who was hired in the same cycle as McMahon won the National Championship in Year 3. Here we are in Year 4 of McMahon begging, hoping and praying he just makes the tournament. Did his first three years not count? You can turn a program around in two years now. This isn’t 1993, Grandpa.

That’s only applicable to last year. We finished with the 11th and 16th best transfer classes in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The difference is other coaches are looking for players in the portal that fit their system on a more consistent basis. This is the first season MM has seemed to do that better.

When you are limited in money you are limited in the level of talent you can get. Rankings on players are wrong all the time. Corey Chest is a perfect example. The only fantasy here is that LSU was spending comparable money to the top half of the conference last 3 years. Didn’t happen. So suddenly when they commit to funding basketball McMahon gets players that fit his system. And anyone who says Reed injury last year wasn’t a major blow to that team understands nothing about basketball. They are casual fans who only look at wins and losses.

Yep. Same thing I said when someone said losing Reed wasn’t an issue. Wow!

I’d like you to give me a detailed breakdown of McMahon’s on-court philosophy. You seem to be the ultimate expert of basketball on this board.

partially based on volume. when you lose all but two players you bring in more players, which makes the rank better.
the rankings are not a team net, like players out, players in. if you lose more you need to replace more.
and probably the cost of the players is more accurate than the media rankings

Multiple top 15 classes says otherwise

He keeps denying the class rankings are now both HS and portal combined even though he’s been told countless times. He’s just dishonest, plain and simple.

Stop with these facts. Don’t you know that poor little Matt had to deal with crippling sanctions?

Easy SEC schedule… If he can’t do it this year, he ain’t gonna do it

Possibly Lester, but I don't think so. I think we're splitting hairs to some extent but HUGE is the way you framed it and that I disagree with that as well as the degree to which it was understated.
I'll put it another way, if losing a player who was averaging 11 points and 6 rebounds in 8 games against a modest OOC schedule last year was a HUGE loss, which the way I perceive it translates to a season crushing loss... then the foundation for the program was not where it needed to be in year 3....IMHO.
