’d love to get one of those coaches, but I sure wouldn’t like a coach that would listen to another school during the CWS.
Now if it’s an agent that’s different.
This is SOP if they are in fact going up there regarding the coaching vacancy. They won’t have a formal or informal conversation while they’re still trying to win a title. I’m not saying it never happens but it’s usually a discussion with the agent of the coach they are interested in.
I don’t think people understand how huge it would be if LSU was able to lure Corbin away. Corbin will almost definitely stay put at Vandy but there’s nothing wrong with LSU trying at the very least to see if they can get him. He’s either interested or can politely decline an offer if it gets to that point. Nothing wrong with taking that shot.
Since getting Corbin to come is unlikely, I really hope LSU is legit serious about getting Vitello. The sky’s the limit for him. He’ll recruit at a much higher level at LSU than UT by a long shot and the guy knows baseball. He’ll do some things that some of our “refined” fans who enjoy the smell of their own farts don’t like, but so what. His players respect and respond to him well.
It seems the consensus on this board is most want McDonnel, who I think is great and more of a proven commodity between he and Vitello but Vitello is still very young in his career and he’s know flash in the pan. He may be the guy who can lead LSU to great success for 20+ years. Godwin would be a good fit as well.
IMO, with all things being equal and not taking into account any personal situations or Vandy theoretically not having the extra advantages with scholarships they have, I’d want Corbin or Sully from UF. Most of us dislike O’Sullivan because he’s the skipper for Florida but he’s an outstanding coach and LSU would be lucky to snag him or Corbin.
Vitello, McDonnel or Godwin would all be great hires since Corbin will likely stay put and O’Sullivan has to stay where he’s at do to a personal situation. I see some wanting O’Connor from UVA who would likely do well here and folks are warming up to him more, especially now that they’ve beaten Tennessee but I still think the 3 I listed are better fits. I’m sure most of you are thinking, “how could you say that? He’s won a NC and just sent Vitello and Tennessee to the losers bracket.”
We’ll all just have to wait until the CWS is over until a new HC is announced. I think Woody has handled the process well so far. Just my $.02. I will say it’s been a few years since I’ve been this excited about the baseball program

I am trying to think of an example where a NCAA coach left a program the week after winning a national championship.
If our target were to win the world series would that make a difference? Could any school look at their contributors and say "we let the championship coach go"?

It would be practically impossible to hire a coach right after a title
#1 their current school would do whatever it takes to keep them
#2 all the time/personal commitments and whatnot after the title (press conferences, parties/celebrations, parades, current school showing the love)
#3 it would just look bad for a coach, most wouldn’t do that
Bottom line, it would be unprecedented for a coach to win a title then immediately take another job. I don’t believe it has ever happened in any major sport in college

Georgia just stole the track coach from USC a few days after a big title win. It's happened before.

I remember we played them a few years back. The media hyped up CPM and O'Connor.
I would like him to be the next coach me.

Yep, seems like it was here either to take in this one game with a future coach or to talk to someone not playing

I’ve been thinking it is OConnor. He checks all the boxes. I do t think Vitelli would talk so quickly after or during

I dont think any coach in that game talked to lsu right before or right after the game

LSU beat them in 09 in Omaha. Saw them live. They had a scary team. Good 2 way player if I recall

Sean Ochinko aborted a ball to left field and put LSU in the lead for good.

I think they will talk to 3-5 coaches there. And with having talked to at least 4 coaches already. I feel like Scott has it set up to where his 5th choice would be most peoples 1st choice. And any of those coaches, I think would have success at LSU, some more than others.

Why don’t we ever track flights when a coach is in place

I’m not saying LSU will hire whoever wins the CWS, I’m just fairly certain a new HC won’t be named until the conclusion.
I can’t think of a school who let a coach fresh off a championship get away. Don’t think it has ever happened and there’s no way that coaches current school would let that happen because he’d be granted every request facility wise and could basically name his salary. It’d have to be ugly behind the scenes between coach and AD.
That being said, if Tennessee was to get putout early, which it’s looking like they will, I can see Vitello accepted the LSU job if offered. Apparently he hasn’t signed his extension and raise. Of the ones in Omaha, he’s most likely to take the LSU job. Corbin ain’t leaving Vandy and O’Connor loves living in Virginia so he’s likely to stay there and decide it where he wants to retire from.
I know with certainty that no one has a good bead on what LSU is going to do. The rumors and “leaks” have been all over the place.

Yap.
Danny Hultzen was who I was thinking of. LSU beat him in GM1. Eibner in GM2 who was another 2way stud
