Top 5 in what?
Right now we're a mediocre SEC program with the Auburn and Florida's. Once proud programs toiling in mediocrity for the forseeable future.
Except LSU doesn't have any in-state competition for all the talented players which makes it more embarrassing.

Are you CRAZY ?? LSU is not even top 20. Kelly is only as good as his coaches. Which are obviously lousy. At ND Kelly had at least 6-7 patsies on their schedule EVERY YEAR. Wait until you see how many players leave LSU this fall/winter. We’ll see. I’m a lifelong LSU fan. I’ve lived through the bad years AND the good years.

You have to have deep pockets and be willing to spend any amount to win in order to be elite
Oregon is willing to do that. Texas is willing to do that. We have witnessed Michigan is willing to do that.

LSU has the ceiling to be a top 5 program because of conference, proximity to talent, and buy-in, and our money situation isn’t terrible, but we fail to reach that ceiling because we continuously shoot ourselves in the foot. And what’s sad now is we are being passed up by places like Tennessee and Ole fricking Miss because we can’t get it together. We are set up similarly to Georgia, but they are simply more competent.

I’d say we are top 7-8. Tier one programs (in terms of nil) include Ohio State,Georgia, Alabama,Texas, Oregon, Michigan maybe A&M. We are tier 2 but very close to 1 along with teams like Miami, USC, Penn State, Florida. But there is NO REASON with our assets, brand, and recruiting base that we shouldn’t be in the top 12 teams each year. Idc if we’re in the SEC. We should have a handful of good wins each year.

Yeah a base that will be on shaky ground when it comes to trying to sign 7 or 8 top LA. guys when the big Money players such as A&M, Bama, OR,UGA really want a few guys from LA. Gone are the days when LSU signed 9 of the top 10 LA players.
