The WR coaching position is the anomaly on his resume. Was a DB in college, defensive QC coach at Duke, defensive GA at LSU, and DB coach at Princeton.

It's any coach. They have to be hired to an on field coaching position for us to be able to recruit that school, HS or JC.

The JC thing stems from basketball where program were hiring JUCO coaches as the film coordinator or basketball ops guy to secure commitments without having too much skin in the game with the coach.

From what I understand, you cannot hire anyone as an analyst/ shadow staff member for two years if they have ties to a recruit or player on roster.

The only way you can get around this is if you hire that person as one of the actual on the field coaches.

First off, maybe he has a connection with a recruit somewhere else.

Second, after further evaluation, it appears it is just Dave Aranda bringing in one of his guys.

He's clearly very smart and its a cheap analyst role. This is a good thing.

If this is the kid I'm thinking of, this is a pretty good move - kid was a solid corner at Duke as well as a good punt returner. He's just now 30, a Florida kid, versatile (coaching WRs, although he played defense), could help with the special teams issues in an analyst role.

You're acting like I've said this isn't a good thing.

Multiple people in this thread have speculated that this hire was possibly due to his connection to a recruit. But that would be fricking idiotic considering that would preclude us from getting that recruit.

There are plenty of reasons we could be hiring this guy, and plenty of reasons it could be a great hire. But connection to Garden City recruit, by necessity, is not one of them.

Only if said recruit was at garden city.

ETA:
But I think it’s clear this is a cerebral guy that Aranda wanted.

You guys are STILL bitching about analysts?

There’s plenty of shite to complain about. This isn’t one of them
lol, agreed!

The only reason there would be cause to complain is if the football department was in the red, which we are far from considering the history of surpluses kicked back to the academic side.

Yeah, I know. I said that in multiple posts already. Including the one you quoted.

Im just glad Orgeron is taking advantage of the allowance of analysts and actually hiring people. Unlike Miles who was scared to death to bring in outsiders.

Yeah, that is about as stupid as an NFL team hiring a defensive coach to be an assistant offensive line coach.

quote:

Cregg remained at Colorado State and landed his first coaching job as a defensive graduate assistant from 1997-99. After three seasons at his alma mater, Cregg moved on to Colgate (2000-03) and Idaho (2004-06), coaching the defensive line at both stops.

At Colgate, Cregg was part of a staff that led the Raiders to the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA championship game. Colgate won 21-straight games during his time on the coaching staff. In four years at Colgate, claimed two Patriot League titles and finished in the top 10 in the nation in rushing defense twice.

In 2007, Cregg landed his first NFL job as an assistant offensive line coach with the Oakland Raiders (2007-08). In 2009, he was hired to coach the offensive line at the University of Tennessee. That season, the Volunteers allowed just 12 sacks, tied for fewest on the Southeastern Conference.

In 2011, USC finished second in the nation in sacks allowed (eight) despite not starting a senior along the offensive line

Prior to joining the Chargers for the 2017 season, Cregg spent three years coaching the offensive line for the Broncos, where he helped Denver win Super Bowl 50 with a 24-10 victory over Carolina.

The joke is on the Raiders for hiring a defensive coach to be on the offensive side of the ball, huh?

First, prior the O being coach no one on here knew or gave a flip about who was on the shadow staff or if we even had one.

Second, this is considered one of the great strengths of Bama, having a massive shadow staff so you should be happy.

Third, they don't pay these guys a lot so you're not going to get a lot of huge names.

Fourth, 2 of the last 3 hires people bitched about were tied to Aranda so are you now pissed at Aranda for wanting these guys?

There are plenty of issues you can bitch about with O if you so desire, but complaining about building a shadow staff makes you look stupid.

Did you even read the bio before bitching?

I am as disgruntled as anyone about Orgeron and what he's doing to our program, but this is more-than-likely an Aranda hire and seems like a very smart guy with solid defensive experience both playing and coaching.

Yea? Go check out how many coaches Bama hires as analysts and where they get them from. They get them from everywhere and they analyse future opponents weeks before they ever start preparing for that game. They have more than anyone. Les never used them. He might have had one. This is not stupid and by the way check out the record of Garden City CC. They play good ball in their world. Coaches all start from somewhere.

I'm not convinced this was the case, but it damn sure seemed that way. Coupled with the weird aversion to having players around who didn't play for him I think it had to affect us.

Miles seemed to prefer to use those spots for parking a coach who he didn't want to let go of, e.g. Brick Haley. I get the feeling, while not knowing for sure, that such people were not used as part of an overall strategy.

Worth noting that while Orgeron is hiring them, we don't yet know for sure how he will use them and whether or not they will be of any value. But hey, getting them on staff is indeed step 1.

ETA: You need depth in the office just like you need depth on the field too. To be caught with your pants down on Jan 11th as recruiting is in the home stretch sucks. At least if Coach A leaves, there is a QC analyst that can be promoted, even temporarily, to that spot who understands and can speak to a recruit about what we run.

this is what makes this board so entertaining. The absolute idiots and their fragile emotional state.

quote:

An emotionally fragile person lacks coping skills, and is prone to erratic, quick mood swings. ... become overwhelmed quite easily, and have really bad mood swings.

Thread started about LSU hiring a shadow staff member.

Lunatic fringe posters go into immediate melt mode:

What the hell, Eaux is over his head, why would he make such a stupid move?
"Another huge name here, I wonder who's next"
"Lmao ed is hiring everyone."
"Are we trying to grab a JUCO recruit or something?"
"I may need to send my resume in to Ed....I did coach a flag football team about 6 years ago"
"Who the heck is this guy"
"Gotta be a big time recruit for '19"
"WR Coach as defensive analyst, Good stuff"

Then someone posts information linking him to Aranda and the idiots go silent and the only thing left is a conversation of recruit/coach/analyst recruiting rules.

This sight is just so damn entertaining with all of the emotionally fragile lunatic fringe posters on the board !!!
