He's stated LSU should NEVER win less than 10 games per year. I agree completely
Interesting, then, that the guy generally regarded as the GOAT of college football coaching did it three out of the five years he was here, including coming off an SEC Championship season and again in year 5 coming off a National Championship Season. Opinions are fine for conversation, but objective history suggests that particular opinion is pretty far off.

we need to cast a wider net to attract talent from all over the country to build a team capable of consistently reaching a championship level
LSU does NOT need to recruit all over the country.
Louisiana, Houston, DFW, East Texas, So Miss, Georgia, and Florida provide more than ample recruits to fill out an unbelievably talented roster.

Don't worry. Kelly has the program exactly where it needs to be.

Respectfully Joseph, these times I've heard JJ make these comments were over the last 10-15 years or so, well after Saban took over and established LSU.
If he were to elaborate, I'm sure he'd be referring to the post Saban era, not before.
Our administrations prior to Emmert and Saban didn't provide the support or infrastructure that has been there for the last 25 years. Had they done so, we could've been a player on the national scene for much longer . Remember FSU, Tennessee, USC and others came into Louisiana and took who they wanted way back when.
I would lean toward Jimmy Johnson knowing what he's talking about as far as coaching college football over any of us posting on the rant.

the greater Atlanta area has over 6 million people
the state of Louisiana has around 4.5 million
Ga should and does produce more hs talent that LSU, but not per capita.

quote:And they decided to bring in a HC coach with a deep history of high profile offensive lineman and a high profile DL coach to compliment the skill players
That said, Louisiana does an excellent job of producing skilled position players, such as defensive backs, wide receivers, and running backs.
Almost like these guys know what they’re doing

LSU won’t beat SC by twenty
We would be lucky to score 20 in any game with this offense

The frick are we doing dude? Why is this coach not beating these chumps like Ole Miss by 20?
What are you doing to fix the problem besides bitching online? That’s not healthy.

LSU’s competition has NEVER been instate schools…it’s kids leaving the state.

$$$$$$$$$ recruits, not geography anymore.
Untill last year it was a 4 team playoff where we shared a division of the hardest conference with a mega dynasty with a super star coach.

It is a far more complex situation than you "expose."
Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, Penn State, and Missouri have no real in-state competition, and are not running away with titles. The state of New York has zero major football power, and has achieved nothing in college sports.
California, Florida, and Texas do have in-state competition, and support that with populations of 40 million, 23 million, and 32 million, respectively. Louisiana has a mere 4.6 million, and that population has been stable to declining for years.
Louisiana has issues with student-athletes with poor GPAs, and many with a desire to leave the state. With NIL, there really aren't any state borders to defend in recruiting. The walls are down. The checkbook are out. Money flows. That's the way it is...and will remain. Adapt.
