*Bolden & Petitto's salaries are estimates based on the vacancies of Beth Rex (Chief of Staff) and DF Arnold(Assistant AD).

----------------------------------------------------

The Austin Thomas interview recently had me curious about the org chart, as it transitions into a more NFL style system.

Some things I am still trying to figure out:

-Does Austin Thomas report to Brian Kelly, or Woodward? Or Does Kelly actually report to Thomas, like the NFL structure?

- I would call these 4 the executive branch, but I believe the next three highest paid off the field associates would be:

Jeff Martin, Director of Player Personnel (formerly Preston Tiffany, salary: $106,00)

Sherman Wilson, Director of Player Retention (2024 salary: $73,000)

Donovan Tate, Director of Recruiting (2024 Salary $54,000; promoted Feb 2025)

Who are these 3 reporting to?

Just IMO, I get the idea Bolden will oversee it all, and the Tate and Martin will report directly to Petitto. Tate will be more of high school liason/scout, and Martin will handle the current team and college scouting along with Petitto. Of course, there are ton of personnel analysts as well.

Wilson likely will report directly to the GM and asst GM and handle player retention.

Belton has his own assistant, Noah Keeter.

Thomas reports to Kelly and Woody. I am sure he has some autonomy to run his department but roster decisions are with the approval of Kelly. Likely no different than a regular assistant coach.

You would think that, but it Doesn’t sound that way based on recent press conferences.

If Brian Kelly was fired tomorrow, I think Austin Thomas would be retained. The same way Mickey Loomis is retained when Dennis Allen is fired. But hey I could be totally off

Buck stops at Kelly when it comes to anything involving the operation of LSU football.

They need to start reducing head coach salary for all these other positions

College head coaches are not worth $10 m a year anymore

Kelly said just last week that a bunch of his duties have been reassigned to others.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Responsibility for duties assigned to others is typically a part of management in any organization.

I was listening to someone this past week, I beleive it was McShay or Klatt, I can’t remember exactly. But they were talking about college programs moving towards and NFL model. He said based on conversation he’s had with AD’s, believes there are several programs in which the HC would get fired before the GM. Oklahoma was an example with Venables and Nagy.

I'm actually surprised major CFB hasn't adopted this kind of pro style operations model yet but i think we're going to get there. Where the head coach reports to a GM who has autonomy and direction over a front office operation. In this way, you kind of separate your football operations from your head coach and maintain those operations beyond that coach. Like if we fired Kelly after this year, you still have the front office operation in place and don't have to completely scrap your entire organizational structure.

I think this will become more common. A front office that manages player personnel, finances, scouting etc. Coaches worry about coaching.

Mingy, I was not perpetuating that anyone has full autonomy. That was the other guy.

But It is very clear that Thomas has duties and responsibilities that have evolved with the new brand of college football.

It is starting to happen, Hooey. And you know what is funny, is I think Coach O was 1st to really dip his toe in the water with it years ago. I mean, it was very likely him compensating for his many weaknesses, but it proved to also be cutting edge considering where the sport is going.

Also of note, and possibly common knowledge, but Jake Flint at $522,000, was LSU highest paid off-the-field employee last year.

Assistant General Manager of a college football team. $217,000.

What a strange world we live in.

Sure are throwing a ton of money at the front office. Shea says it was needed because the department was/has been so behind in NIL.

Personally seeing those numbers LSU needs to be in the final four this year minimum. But I see BK says we’re just north of 18 million and others closer to 25.

Those are estimates for the new hires based on what the upper management positions were getting last year

Bolden made $170k at ole Miss last year & Petitto made $120k at Ohio state.

Beth Rex made $213k & Arnold $188k. So I assume both Bolden & Petitto received raises into this area. However, judging by the title changes, it seems like their new positions will be 100% dedicated to football operations, rather than the executive-like titles held by the ones before them.

So let’s give that salary a haircut and redirect some of those funds!
