I assume he’s still getting buyout money from Missouri.

you’re saying either:
1. LSU knew that Matt Rhule was going to get the Carolina job a month before it was made public, and knew that Aranda was going to replace Rhule at Baylor two months before it was made public, or

aranda had many options and O prob knew. there are many more possibilities.

but no coach who wants to keep a decent reputation would leave an SEC DC job for a school in the same division of the same conference without coaching a down.

Right. His career quickly took a nose dive after he bailed on Saban and failed at Arkansas. Check the resume here.

The man was a hot, up and coming guy after turning a bad Memphis defense around in 1 year. Then Saban hired him. He looked like he was headed for the big time. He bailed without ever coaching here. He failed at Arkansas as a DC and was fired. His career has trended toward being a position coach and then to being a journeyman at lower-tier schools since. The man is a cautionary tail if there ever was one.

Damn, that's some Columbo detective skills

Yeah, if I had to guess his salary for DC wasn’t really that important as it was probably just an offset to his Mizzou buyout money anyway.

So maybe for him it wasn’t about the money since the overall money was gonna be the same regardless due to Mizzou buyout, and he chose to honor his commitment to Ark rather than burning bridges by leaving before coaching a single game.

Don’t know if it’s true that LSU went after him or not, but I could see where the timing just didn’t work out for us.

His buyout was under $3 million offset by what he makes this season.

He didn't want to leave Sam Pittman without ever coaching a game.

Just think what Odom would do with that LSU talent. He’s making walk-one’s defensive national player of the week - per PFF

Edit: former walk-on. Put on scholarship after OM performance

Brady was a stud who fell into his lap thanks to Payton and he left after one year

This is just a stupid take. Brady was a complete unknown and even Payton admitted that he told him it was a big mistake. O just made a great hire. Now I’m not going to argue that it is starting to look like a ‘even blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then’ thing....

Odom is making $1.2 million with Arkansas, Pelini is making $2.3 million. Makes no sense.

And got outbid by Arkansas? I don’t think this is true.

let's assume the money was the same, but O wanted Odom to stay for a minimum amount of time.

odom is looking for another HC job ASAP. arkansas can accept the shot in the arm and move on, LSU can't.

pretty easy to see this being the scenario

Yep, it was Bill Busch (who was QC coach at OSU) who told Orgeron about Burrow and the situation there . Had nothing to do with Orgeron.

Don't know anything about Brady other than that one year here....and don't care. All I know is that Joe performed.

Now that is some BS. All it did was put LSU's foot in the door first. When Burrow announced his transfer it was a big deal and he was by far the biggest transfer QB on the market at that time. LSU was going to recruit him regardless, Busch just had the necessary contacts to get in early.

I am sure Aranda told CEO that he would be exploring options to be a HC. It just happened that it was Baylor. I think It was no surprise Aranda or Brady left and I am sure CEO had plenty of time to pick out who he wanted for those roles.

It wasn't a "big deal" at the time when he tranferred because he was a complete unknown, having been the 1st back-up to JD barrett for 2 years and battling Haskins for the starting job the next. Meyers reluctance to deviate from a dual threat QB with Barrett probably cost them especially since Joe broke his hand in practice and lost his backup role to Haskins.

I wouldn’t bet on Odom jumping ship so quick. Pittman will be here a while and good buds with Odom. I expect a hefty pay raise coming his way. We were paying 1.5M to Chavis under Chad

Get the feeling Odom likes being a DC although there will be many comers

Do you want me to post the articles when he announced? It wasn't that long ago man. He was the biggest commodity on the transfer market that summer because everyone else already transferred. Florida fans wanted him badly.
