What did JR do that causes LSU a championship exactly? He didn't lose two game to vastly inferior teams like MF.
Vs. KY in '07 we scored 27 pts in regulation (and had a TE drop a TD pass from MF)
Vs. Arky we scored 28 pts in regulation (and had a TD pass called back when Early lined up wrong).
It is very misleading to cast these in terms of "MF" losing two games to vastly inferior teams.

I admit that I was wrong when I used to think that LSU has the best fan base in college football.
Don't for a minute believe all these titty babies crying like a spoiled, entitled 2 year old are LSU fans. Some yes, but some are trolls as well.
Others are just pilling on cause Miles made them look like a college football fool when many of them were telling us he would never do this or never do that. You know, he was making LSU a mediocre program.
Basically, he bitch slapped that thought process by quickly taking us back to an elite level in college football and they mad.

quote:quote:I'm not a college football coach and I bet you aren't either. There have been lots of play calls by lots of coaches that I didn't understand. I do know that most of the time it isn't whimsy; that there is a reason for the call. Football is very complex at this level and specific plays are called because the staff has decided that the call will exploit a certain pervieved weakness in the other team.
Call it what you will, but running Copeland on 3rd and 3 and then punting with less than 4 minutes to go (and down by 2 scores) was effectively "quitting". Not even giving JL a shot to make something happen on that series was, as you say, sticking to his game plan too long.
Why the particular call you mentioned. I haven't a clue, but I bet that the staff saw something.I'm not trying to say that the LSU staff put together a great game plan. Obviously they didn't but to suggest that they "quit" is silly in the least.
I've seen the "Miles is paid to be the coach so we should never question his decision" argument before, but using it here takes it to an all new level. What exactly could the staff have seen with 4 minutes to go where the perfect play call was a punt?

They saw that they had absolutely no answer to what Bama was doing, and didn't want to risk getting any more embarrassed than they already were (notice I didn't use the "Q" word).

I was wrong to think Miles would have the team prepared for the BCS game.

I was wrong about JJ eventually progressing and getting better as he got older.

Just found another old thread: " Ciron must be a JJ hater too, interesting quote" (7.24.09)
Apparently Miles was making quotes in the media that both JJ & JL would see the field back in July '09, and had members of the team (like Ciron) believing there was actually an open competition.

I can say I take up for him because I got tired of the constant bashing he gets. I have never seen so many people blame one player for everything that went wrong last year.
Was he a great QB? No obviously not, but as someone mentioned he had some good moments. The bad ones just out weighed the bad.
He was a freshmen redshirt or not he still was a freshmen seeing his first action since high school.
I expected him to struggle last year so I was not surprised when he did. I just did not anticipate the defense struggling like they did to compound the QB issue.

I feel the exact same way, and I would add that I didn't expect the O-line to get tossed around like rag dolls against Auburn, Florida, & Ole Miss either. Given how bad the defense was against Georgia, those were 3 losses no matter who is playing QB. As for Alabama and Arkansas, shite happens--especially once a losing spiral has already begun.
Really, the only legit argument about how JL made last year so bad was that we lost against Bama. That's it. Bigger QB-caused calamities have happened to LSU football.
Toothpick, however, was a JJ fanatic.
