They beat Memphis and Memphis is literally in right now and they will likely play again. I do not think it is a coincidence that when he gets more money and resources at NT than previous jobs he succeeds. LSU has so many resources investing in Morris could be a perfect storm plus he is a coach you could implement incentive based contract and low buyout. He would just need a good DC and we would undoubtedly be more exciting to watch than this product.

My fault you are right but they could still beat them in American championship. If they don’t make the playoff it would be easier to hire him anyway. I would want him for offensive identity honestly

If this logic justifies Morris getting a look, then why not Ryan Silverfield at Memphis? He's 29-6 over the last 3 seasons and, if the CFP started today, would have Memphis in. During that time he has wins over Arkansas, Florida St, and close losses to Mizzou and SMU. He's 45 and has multiple years experience in the NFL.

I just don’t see LSU going for a G5 coach

I think we should start with 1. Lane 2. Drink 3. Dillingham (I don’t think Saban, Lanning, or Freeman are realistic) then work our way to coordinators and G5 but I just think it would be dumb not to interview some of the rising young coaches is all. We did not interview lane when we hired Kelly and look how dumb that looks now. We have nothing to lose casting a wide net

Does he have SEC ties?

That is a must after watching the powder puff team Kelly trotted out for 3 1/2 years.

This. If we're going non-power four he's one of the ones I'd consider. Has a way better resume as a head coach than Morris.

He has deep ties in Texas and LSU has front office members now and Frank will likely remain on staff

I really like Eric Morris. I've been following his career recently and he's produced top offenses year after year.

Someone is going to get a helluva coach when they scoop him up. No way he and his qb are in Denton next year.

I'v been camping out at the airport hoping to see a coach get off the plane soon. Saban's plane has not landed at BTR this week.

At this point, I thought you were going to point out that Brian Kelly is available

And we’d get Mestemaker at QB next year…

why? Please provide some logical rationale for this statement.

You do realize Frank was already head coach at two other schools. He went 19-29 and 7-11.

And you think that resume warrants being given the top job at LSU?

A 43-33 overall record and losing seasons his first two years before this one gives me pause.

5-7 in 2023
6-7 in 2024

And now he's 8-1. I would much rather a coach who is on an upward trajectory than one who wins the west his first year, then declines every year.

Memphis as a G5 program has been good over multiple coaches. I'm not saying he can't be a good coach but North Texas has pretty much always been a bottom tier program even among G5, it's historically a much harder place to win at than Memphis. So to me, elevating them is more impressive imo. Plus Norvell and Fuente got chances to jump from Memphis to major programs and both flamed out. I know this isn't basketball but Murray St was good under multiple coaches and a lot of them got chances at bigger schools and didn't work out, including MM so far. I can't help but draw that comparison.

Plus Morris has coordinator experience and has a more impressive history developing QBs and running offenses

I don't think Morris supporters would argue with you. The point is that we don't need to automatically disregard someone just because he doesn't have power 4 experience. We need to properly vet all of these possibilities.

Unlike others, I'm not sure we do need to make Lane say no first. If Lane doesn't want the job, he'll make us think he does until many qualified candidates are gone. If we want him, make him an offer with a limited window and be willing to move on. I'm not willing to put all of my eggs in Lane fricking Kiffin's basket.
