If we listened to ND fans or not that wasn’t gonna stop the hire lol

How dumb are you? Like we're supposed to listen to a fans view

Shite like this is sooooo fricking stupid. Why??? Because you make it sound like the fans hired him or even had a say it. Go back to picking your nose.

even if LSU fans had listened to whatever warning, what would that have changed? is someone under the impression Woodward would have pulled the offer on the way to the podium?

also many of their “warnings” such as not being able to develop QBs, he can’t recruit, have not come to pass. LSU and Notre Dame are very different jobs.

Yeah bc Sunbelt Billy, Lincoln Riley and a host of others were the better choice. Notre Dame has been lame since before Kelly and after. We’ll see what they do in playoffs when they play an SEC team. LOL

Please god make it stop. The ignorance of this fan base is astonishing at times.

I don’t think so. If you read press from the time period, all of it sounds EXACTLY like what we are complaining about on this board after every loss. It’s unnerving how similar it is.

Those are literally the same things every fanbase says when losses are piling up.

Ole Miss fans were saying some of the exact same things about Kiffin earlier this year, Georgia fans have started muttering about Kirby now.

Freeman took over a team that was routinely losing 1 or 2 games a season and has one more win that BK does at LSU, versus Notre Dame's weak schedule.

BK in a rebuild at LSU has basically won and lost the same amount of games as Freeman at Notre Dame despite Freeman taking over a much better situation and playing a much weaker schedule.

It's odd that Notre Dame fans pretend they are in a much better position, if anything, Freeman is the one who is underperforming.

what do you think ND record would be if LSU and ND flipped places?

CBK said he doesn’t evaluate coaches mid season and we shouldn’t evaluate Head Coaches mid-contract even though I believe a 10 yr deal with 90% guaranteed is nuts.
That being said LSU was in very desperate situation at the close of the Coach O era and perhaps Scott wanted a safe decision.

I think it's a decent article overall. However, Notre Dame fans and beat writers forget a few crucial points.

1. Unless they were living under a rock, Kelly's hiring didn't woo over the entire fanbase. I'd be willing to bet that approximately 1/3 - 1/2 of the fanbase was less than thrilled with the Kelly hiring. I remember reading the posts, listening to the call in shows, and having beers at The Bulldog or Chimes with many disgruntled fans over the hiring.

2. We're putting too much emphasis on (i) LSU beating Alabama in the first year and winning the SEC West and (ii) LSU losing to Alabama in 2024 (along with USC and A&M). It goes both ways. We, LSU fans, boasted too much about Kelly's first season - which really was quite the accomplishment considering the roster he inherited. Likewise, Notre Dame and other fans, or focusing in too much on LSU's shortcomings this season. Go look at pre-season magazines and predictions. News flash...LSU wasn't anticipated to be winning the SEC. A few important games remain, but we're tracking the preseason predictions.

3. When Kelly took the LSU job, the landscape of college football drastically changed and it changed overnight (NIL, Transfer Portal). Kelly needs to learn how to navigate that in the way he deems best. It's something that is fairly new and constantly changing.

4. Kelly's had a lot of coaching turnover (Denbrock, House, etc). Stating the obvious, consistency is best. He needs to hire and retain the best coordinators possible.

5. Recruiting isn't finished, but LSU fans have a lot to be optimistic about. A big knock on Kelly was that he was either lazy or an average recruiter. I don't know? He's currently doing well or he's assembled a staff that is doing well.

The article overall was nothing out-of-bounds or incorrect, however. Kelly won a lot of games at Notre Dame. Irish fans tend to forget that or sweep it under the rug. The consistently say, "Kelly can't win the big-time games!" Well, I'm not seeing Marcus Freeman consistently win those as well (Ohio State 2022, USC 2022, Ohio State 2023, Louisville 2023, Clemson 2023). Oddly enough, Marcus Freeman also struggles mightily in the miniscule games as well (Northern Illinois, Marshall, Stanford). He's got a good team this year with a really good defense and some elite running backs (seriously, watch their back #4, Love, he's a tremendous talent), but it's in incredibly weak schedule. I predict they'll win out in the regular season, but let's see how they fare in the Playoffs with stiffer competition.
