It specifically said they looked for a grandfather rule as well before looking into a week 0 game, yet some here had the audacity to question the LSU brass for just "accepting" the suspension.

Yet another poster said, aw shucks it's just one game and one player what's the big deal. Well, it was a big enough deal that LSU tried to get around it.

so let’s stop scheduling top 10 matchups in week 1 and schedule them for week 2 from now on… simple

Texas 8&4 can buy an entire recruiting class and nothing happens.

Our best dlinemen sells an autograph 2 weeks before its legal to do so and he has to sit out the biggest non-conference game in 12 years.

Well it's not like this is an every year occurrence (suspension) and I'm sure there are many here much smarter than me that can lay out the benefits of scheduling quality match ups in week 1.

Why not appeal, then drop the appeal after FSU?

They've been knowing about this since last year so I'm guessing maybe they already appealed long ago.

Should’ve moved Grambling to Week 0 as as soon as those scumbags moved Duquesne to Week 0 last year.

We didn’t have Maason against them last year at we didn’t have Duquesne as a tune up. We also had a brand new staff and a new-to-the-program QB which resulted in a very slow start in the 1H. And we still almost beat them.

I’m looking for no slow start to yield early domination.

I don’t exactly what type of appeals they tried, but according to the article:

The appeals didn’t turn out in our favor, and we are going to abide by the ruling,” Kelly said. “We accept the ruling. We’re going to move on and get ready for Florida State

Yeah it sucks that FSU doesn't have to face Maason AGAIN. Yet we'll beat them without him. The Tigers are much improved and in a better place compared to the squad we put on the field in week 1 a year ago.

We played poorly most of the game last year but had a chance to pull it out despite our mistakes.

LSU rolls 38-27

I believe it’s you, or an opponent of yours.

One does not simply schedule a Week 0 game.

Hawaii and any team that plays at Hawaii are allowed to schedule a thirteenth regular season game to recoup travel costs. They generally play in Week 0 in order to preserve their bye weeks. I'm not sure if that's extended to teams that play overseas games, (like ND in Dublin), but it's a pretty limited number of spots for Week 0 opponents.

Any team who plays at Hawaii is automatically eligible for a week zero game so that they get an extra bye week (to deal with the travel requirements of going to Hawaii later in the season). Last year Duquesne played in Hawaii so they were eligible for a week zero game. But they can play anybody in that week zero game.. so FSU scheduled them and got to play in week zero by extension.

Grambling doesn’t play Hawaii AFAIK and thus would not fall under that exception. However, there is another exception for FCS teams playing nationally-televised, non-conference games. I think the idea is that FCS teams don’t get many opportunities to play on national TV, so the NCAA allows them so play in week zero (when there’s less competition for TV slots) for exposure. I believe this is the exception that Grambling would have fallen under.

That being said, I’ve read some conflicting info on the FCS exception - some places say it applies for FCS-vs.-FCS non-conference matchups while others just say non-conference. I’d have to dig into the actual rule book to see what it says. There may be some sort of NCAA approval required either way, in which case moving Grambling to week zero would be more of an uphill battle than simply figuring out the logistics.

There are also exceptions for special circumstances approved by the NCAA on a case-by-case basis. The ND/Navy game in Ireland is an obvious example, and there was also the Miami vs. Florida “150 years of college football” event in week zero a few years ago.

I did read it all for once. I was thinking the right path for most of it. Makes sense to try to give some smaller schools exposure as well. Lsu needs to try to do it with a service academy like notre dame is this weekend.

Keep in mind that ND and Navy are playing their game in Ireland. Not sure they would be playing week zero if that game was in the US.
