defend against the short play action passes. Saban is not going to risk a great momenum loss early in the game. He and McCarron will do like they did against LSU defense last year in Tuscaloosa and the Natn'l Championship game. Bama will come out and fake the hand off to the back and throw a short pass in the flat to the same back or tight end. If the LSU defense takes away these short play action passes early in the game, they can force bama into making plays they dont want to make and increase their potential for costly turnovers early in the game.

LSU offense and defense was better last year, and it didn't matter. Won't matter this year either unless Bama has a melt down like UF did vs. GA.

Shut them out and score. We may have to score twice since our offense may let their defense score.

The good thing is our LB play this year has been great even with the injuries. Last year we couldn't defend backs out the backfield or TEs to save our lives. I've been pleased with our LB play this year.

This.

I think we need scores from defense and from ST. An INT to the 1 or 2 may not be enough to secure a TD, sadly.

Are you saying Alabama's gameplan in those two games were identical to each other?

We did beat them once last year, but yeah it didn't matter.

FWIW i think Bama's offense was better last year.

This game isn't about what our defense does, it's about our offense. Our defense held its own in the BCSCG but wore down in the 2nd half with our inept offense.

3 FGs in the last 8 quarters against Bama. If we can't find ways to score a couple of TDs, we lose this game.

For the love of Christ can I get some defenders jamming these timing routes. McCarron is a dink and dunk type passer. There aren't really that many check downs in this offense. The problem, I hate to admit, is that McCarron is absurdly accurate with these types of passes. Say what you want about the little dipshit, he hits his spots.

That said, if our corners can be aggressive and knock those receivers off their routes, they'll have to resort to the run and longer passes. I've got faith in our run stop ability (provided we can put a few drives together to keep fresh legs). And I am positive we can get to McCarron if he hangs around the pocket too long

Oh really? Hadn't thought of that. I just thought we had to score more points than them. Good thing I don't post football advice on the Rant!!

I agree with the op about covering the play action effectively. I've noticed that McCarron does get happy feet so I would make it a point to put him on his arse every friggin play.

18 TDs with ZERO INTs in 2012

Guess his feet are happy b/c they are always running to the endzone to celebrate another TD.

Veteran QB with a good O-line vs 1 defense with a pulse... Dare I say his best shot at throwing one is this weekend, sweetheart.

He's hitting well over 70% of his passes of 25 yards or more.
