I still say Coach Orgeron is the man

Posted by cantfind1 on 11/25/16 at 8:23 pm
Except for two bad play calls at the end of the Florida game, coach O has done great job. Yes, he should have spread Florida out on 3rd and 4th down from the 1 yd line then give to Guice. But nobodys perfect and hindsight is 20/20. Orgeron is a great recruiter and the players like playing for him. Also the fan base is fired up about LSU football again. So he's a defensive coach and some people want an offensive minded head coach. Saban is a defensive minded head coach and their doing fine. Orgeron could hire an offensive guru for OC but I'm not saying the interim OC (Ensminger) is doing bad. IF anything I cant understand what took so long to get Cameron out. With the plethora of running backs LSU has and has had, all they needed was a QB that could pass a little, be a little mobil and think on his feet. Looks like now we have one. Now you cant put 8 in the box and dare LSU to pass. But with the quality running backs and O line LSU has, teams almonst have to put 8 in the box and that's easy pickins for the wide receivers. I could go on but let me just say if it aint broke don't fix it. I think coach O would be a great fit for LSU, the players, and the fans.
I definitely believe LSU is one of the top 5. But because of Coach O's coaching since he took over. Same team and players as first part of season but look at em now with coach O. Coaching matters. Look at Michigan now and before Harbaugh. Look at San Francisco now and when they had Harbaugh as a coach.
Lets hope nobody with any LSU hiring authority believes any of that nonsense.

re: COACH O, and here's why.

I agree totally. Coach O deserves it from the way LSU's been playing and by the coaching job he's done so far.
I was watching LSU/Ark game. I heard the announcers say if LSU wins the rest of their games LSU shouldn't hire coach O as permanent coach. What?? That's insane. I believe its a conspiracy to be sure LSU gets a mediocore coach. LSU has the same players it had at the 1st of the year with two losses they never should have lost. Now under coach O they have one loss to Alabama by 10 points. No other team in the country could play Alabama that close. What other coach in the country could do better. The number 2 through 8 teams in the country have all been beaten by nobody teams. Does LSU want any of these coaches? I hope not. Other than Urban Myers and Harbaugh, the rest of the coaches cant touch coach O. All I'm saying is the LSU AD should think long and hard before letting coach O go. If LSU wins the rest of their games the announcers said don't hire coach O as permanent coach the announcers said. Idiots. That's why their announcing and not coaching. And after comments like that they might not should be announcing. Keep going Tigers.

Yes, hire an OC for 1 year. Should have hired an OC at least 1 or two years earlier. Preferabley right after the LSU loss to Bama in the Championship game a few years ago. That was horrible offensive play calling and execution.
You may be on to something there
Inexperience doesn't seem to keep Alabama from putting a new QB in every year and throwing successfully
I mean no disrespect to the offensive coordinator but I definitely think the problem with LSU is the offense. Is Colin Kapernick that bad a QB or is his new OC not good this year. Last few years when he had Harbaugh's OC, Kapernick looked like a good QB now he looks like he couldn't run the LSU offense. The Ravens let Cam go and they won a Super Bowl the next year. Miles hires Cam and the LSU offense and QB has stalled ever since. LSU still does not throw passes to the Tight end. Man, if you fake a handoff to Forunette, how wide open is the middle of the field behind the linebackers going to be? For the sake of common sense hire a good OC and let Cam do some other job on the LSU team if need be. LSU has the potential to when it all if it only had an offense and a kicker (after tonight field goal miss catastrophe), Go Tigers.
I agree with all the comments about d line pressure and how about adding some zone defense on 3rd and long and keep the ball in front of you. There is a place for zone and cover 2. Doesn't have to be man to man all the time.
Thank goodness Chavis found a new job. I don't think Les would have fired him. LSU needs a new offensive coordinator.

Why didn't LSU go for it on 4th and one from their own 40. LSU was running all over ND. They couldn't pass for sure but they could have run. Why didn't LSU run on 1st & 2nd down when they had it 1st and goal from the 6 with 27 seconds left in the first half. they could have scored or throw on 3rd down if need be. Terrible play calling.

BTW- there is no doubt LSU did score on the fake field goal they just didn't want LSU to have it for some reason. Probably to keep game close for TV ratings.

My last gripe. LSU def pass rush up the middle was terrible. Pillow fighting with the offensive line. A junior high team could have held that pass rush off. YOU need a strong pass rush up the middle to stop a 3rd or 4th and long. Watch how Bama does it on New Years day. I hope Les takes note and recuits some def bull rushers and run stoppers at the inside line position. Good luck Mr Chavis at A&M. ITs a win win for A&M and LSU as far as I'm concerned. Nothing personal just an honest opinion.
there's a legal way to do it. Put a defensive lineman on both sides of the center and drive him on his but. It may even disrupt the offensive play.

Lets start with Les. I like Les. He's a nice guy, BUT. When you make $3 million a year plus, I expect you to win every game. Maybe lose one or 2 at the most. If you lose 3 or 4,then maybe you should make about $1million a year. Also, being head coach at LSU you should be able to recruit the best QB in the country or at least a top 5.

Now lets look at the defense. Lets just say the defensive coaching is terrible. Its the same as last year. The d line cant pressure the QB. How many 3rd and 7 plus yards did LSU have last night? At least 7 or 8. And MSU converted all of them for lack of pass rush. When Alabama d has 3rd and 7 what happens? Strong pass rush up the middle. QB gets sacked or hurried and incomplete pass. Also the DB's need to be coached to stick their hand thru the receivers hand when they go for a pass. Especially when LSU DB is 6feet and MSU receiver is 6-5. Everybody else employs this technique why haven't we?

On the offensive side. How about lets utilize some of our weapons. Like the halfback, tailback and tight end. When MSU blitzed us or overpowered our O line, why don't we dump the ball to Hilliard or Fournett in the flat and let em run for days. Send the receivers on go routs to take CB's down field then our RB's can go. This will slow down their pass rush as well. Lastly, get the TE involved in some pass plays over the middle and in the flat.

One last thing about the game last night. The center, DAy, for MSU played dirty stepping on our players. He made it look like accident but I don't think so. Don't we have any nasty players on defense. Somebody should have told him "I'm going to knock your arse off and then do it". I almost did it and I'm fifty something. Jeese.
The LSU defensive front four does not put any pressure on the QB in 3rd and long situations. Look at Alabama when they played OleMiss. Alabama swarmed the QB on 3rd down passes. Solve that problem and LSU will be great again. If you don't, you better add another digit on the LSU scoreboard cause Manzeil is going to run it up.
Absolutely. The LSU front four does not put any pressure on the QB. There were at least 3, 3rd and nines against OleMiss and everytime no pressure. That's why Alabama beat Ole Miss. When it was 3rd and long against bama, the Ole Miss QB went down in 2.5 seconds. Period.
It was like watching the National Championship game all over again. Bad Play calling. I would like to have seen LSU fake the hand off to the tail back and throw a short pass to the full back on one of those 2nd or 3rd and two calls. The way those corners were cheating in. The FB would have walked into the end zone. Need better pass play designs as well. Not to mention pass protection. It was obvious #78 couldn't block Clemsons DE. Put someone else like a TE their to help and give QB some time. Or send Ware in the flat on that side and run for days with a short pass while the wide recievers run fly patterns. How frustrating to watch.

I'm looking forward to getting John Diarse at wide reciever in the fall, he will be a big time play maker for Mettenberg to throw to.
i agree. They simply could not pass protect at all. 8 three and outs, Terrible. doulble team if necessary to help #78. Terrible.

LSU Defense against Bama needs to

defend against the short play action passes. Saban is not going to risk a great momenum loss early in the game. He and McCarron will do like they did against LSU defense last year in Tuscaloosa and the Natn'l Championship game. Bama will come out and fake the hand off to the back and throw a short pass in the flat to the same back or tight end. If the LSU defense takes away these short play action passes early in the game, they can force bama into making plays they dont want to make and increase their potential for costly turnovers early in the game.
deep enough after they catch it and run for 30 more yards.
Now the ESPN analyst's aren't going to like this but here are the facts. TCU is #3 at .900. Boise is #4 at .886. LSU is #5 at .819. Arkansas is #12 at .570. Nevada is #18 at .294. On the BCS Countdown show, the ESPN analyst pretty much agreed that Boise would jump TCU by beating #18 Nevada. I agree. But if LSU beats #12 Arkansas who has a .570 rating which is almost twice as high as Nevada at .294 then it only stands to reason that LSU could and should move up couple 100 points to overtake both Boise and TCU. Naturally ESPN did not mention that scenario because they for some reason don't like to recognize LSU. But I think the BCS computers will definitely recognize the strenght of schedule of LSU and the corresponding BCS ratings of each respective team.

Now beating Arkansas is not going to be easy but if LSU does do it and they better and LSU is going to, then, thats the way I see the BCS numbers crunching out. Very interesting.
