Corey Raymond. There's a reason his last tenure here required a S coach to help. He is a terrible S coach and a mid level CB coach. But he can recruit! But we knew this when BK fired him and why many were against bringing him back

But he isn't the safety coach this yr. Olsen is the actual safety coach. I don't think Raymond is the one we should be blaming.

Yeah, I know. However, it's still improved from last year and you can see it on the field. Defense keeping up in more games despite having to play with short fields as Nuss turns the ball over repeatedly.

I compare defense to PM's first year at LSU. The coaching was there but the talent was absent. Another year or two, that defense will be pretty good.

Highest paid coordinator and defensive staff in the country for a similar product.

Our Defense is giving up 5.94 yards per play.

That's 15 out of 16 SEC defenses - only Miss State is worse.

and if that were distributed over which down...

i'm sure we're 16th on 3rd down

THIS IS JUST A GUESS....
1st down - 2.1 - 7th
2nd down - 2.9 - 9th
3rd down - 9.1 - 16th
4th down - 1.5 - 13th

All - 5.94 YPP - 15th

We had the #106 defense in sp+ last year. 40th before the Florida game.

To be fair LSU has played the #3 ranked schedule in the country according to Sargarin. Only Georgia has played a tougher schedule.

We give up a lot of explosive plays and have all year. It’s why I pushed back so hard when early in the year people would say “well if you take away the three 50+ yards plays that we would give up every game, the defense actually wasn’t that bad”

In sec games only:

10th in forced 3 & out %
9th in scoring drive %
8th in defensive success rate

The only numbers that are really bad are rushing defense and missed tackles. We have one of the best secondary’s in SEC play.

We don’t have the depth at DT to hang in there yet. And safeties make them look 10x worse because they can’t make a damn tackld

Tackling needs to be a bigger emphasis IMO. Incorporate that skill into our every day position drills on defense.

Certainly could be an emphasis in bowl practice & spring

And 3 years later, ND appears headed to the playoffs and LSU is an SEC bottom dweller. All for only $100 million along with zero accountability too.

Notre Dame will lose to USCw to end season and will be interesting to see what Committee does to them with the Northern Illinois loss.

Notre dame? Compare that schedule to what lsu just played

We have a common opponent in A&M which Notre Dame beat in College Station and Notre Dame will also face USCw.

Lazy take. This defense is less talented compared to last year but much better. We can't win the Ole Miss game with last years defense. Florida beats us by 30 with last years defense. The defense while still bad is much improved with LESS talent.

It's just another tear down job.

I don't think you fire everybody, but there is no one on the team who can't be doing things better. Coaches, players, staff, administrators.
