I prefer to remember the 1959 Sugar Bowl.

a tight one that ended correctly.

Eric kneel for the national anthem Reid gave up a 4th and 16 to keep Clemson alive at the end.

It was a consolation prize for us and a huge opportunity for them.

DeAndre Hopkins absolutely mushroom-stamped our defense that game. He was everywhere and they had no answer for him.

What happened in this game is LSU had a 2nd and 2 after an 8 pass on 1st down needing the first down to ice the game.

Les thought back to the Alabama game where he ran the ball three times when we needed a 1st down to ice the game and didn't want to make the same mistake.

So instead of running it in Atlanta Les decided to throw it and the 2nd and 3rd down passes were incomplete.

This was a classic case of dumbass Les. The situations weren't even similar. Against Alabama the distance to go was much longer and LSU had been throwing the ball great in the 2nd half. Against Clemson the distance was short and LSU had been pounding it down Clemson's throat that game.

So instead of Les making the right decision in one of the games at least he outsmarted himself and made the incorrect decision both times.

Watching it now. What a frustrating offense. Mett missed 2 wide open deep throws (1 would have been a TD to Boone, the other a 30 yarder to Landry) in the 3rd. Then when he did make good throws, Boone dropped a slant to convert a 3rd down and Jarvis dropped a touchdown that would have put us up 28-13.

Also, DeAndre Hopkins was absurd. 13 catches for 191 yards and 2 TDs.

Not the first time Miles abandoned something that was working. If memory serves me correct, In 2007 Charles Scott was having a great game in the first half and hardly saw it in the second half until the end when it was obvious he was getting the ball.
Never forget 4th and 16 or 17 and they get a long completion. Chavis!!

Les was too political, he threw games that he was told to throw. This was one of them.

Wait... What

We were not pounding it down their throats. Outside of a 60 yard TD run we had maybe 70 rushing yards the whole rest of the game. We had also been stopped on 3rd and 2 trying to run twice in the second half.

We missed too many opportunities to win that one. Missed wide open WRs, dropped passes, Loston dropped an INT in the red zone in the 4th. If we just make the plays that were there we win easily. There was no doubt some awful play calling, and statue Mett took 6 sacks (some his fault and some on the O-line) but we just didn't make the plays.

The rewatch is maddening though. Up 2 scores with 3 mins left and lose the game.

ETA: Reid got burnt on both the 4th and 16 and the TD in the 4th. If he turns around and finds the ball on either of those we win.

ETA 2: On the game winning field goal we had 3 guys back in field goal safe formation

Myles wouldn't pass most of the game, then late in the game when we obviously should have ran the ball, he opted to throw. He basically gave them the game.

This! Hill was having tremendous game.

I don't usually get worked up over bowl games one way or the other, but I remember thinking WTF are we doing?

the "Pass the baton" game.

Had a bad or weird feeling after that L. I wouldn't have guessed it would take 7 years to be all the way back.

ETA. LSU vs AL in 2012 was lit.

Not at all true. Clemson was stopping it.

Here are our second half drives after the long TD (before the 3 pass last drive):

1 yard run
4 yard run
(3rd and 5) 9 yard pass
5 yard run
Incomplete
Incomplete

5 yard run
2 yard run
(3rd and 3) Sack
Punt

4 yard run
16 yard run
2 yard run
4 yard screen pass
(3rd and goal from the 3) incomplete pass
Field goal

3 yard run
Incomplete pass
Offsides
(3rd and 2) 1 yard run
Punt

3 yard run
1 yard screen pass
Sack
Punt

That is hardly "shoving it down their throats"

It was 11 runs, 8 pass attempts (including screens and sacks) and 2 first downs.

Boyd was a freaking beast. LSU punished him the entire game and he kept getting up.

LES MILES.

sat on the lead. This was why les was ultimately fired for games like this. This game was in the bag.

That win put clemson on the map and why they are where they are today. The end of clemonsing. Thanks Les

Les was many things but not “political”! He did it his way for better or worse. Even when his job security was threatened and his awareness that the fans patience had grown thin with his offense, he was going to stick to his methods. It was actually a big “frick you”to everyone!
