I’m just so tired of Jones and his Ks.

You either get Jones Ks or

Morgans Double plays with bases loaded or the SO/infield pop up with runners on 3rd.

Ok CPM. Didn't everyone scream and holler for 10 years when the previous coach had a defensive lineup but lacked hitting?

I didn’t; I thought CPM coached fundamentally sound baseball. His pitching decisions could be iffy but we could always count on the defense.

Like when he put Hellmers at third base

Pearson has 98 plate appearances. 75 abs. He is batting a Hal Hughes like .213 and has hit as many HRs for the Tigers as I have this season.

Not to mention, Morgan doesn't have the arm for LF

Which is why he’s in left not right. You don’t need a strong arm in left. You need someone to judge a fly ball off bat because most shots to left are harder hit then right.

What’s wrong with beloso at first, Morgan in OF and Jones DH?

Who’s first next year? He’s getting Jones work because that’s our future 1b.

Morgan would go to the bench before jones would. Sorry Jones is just more valuable to the lineup

You picked the single worst defensive move in 12 years. That lasted… what did it even last the whole opening series?

I remember the single worst defensive outfield ever assembled at LSU played the entire Super Regional against Stony Brook.

Mason Katz in centerfield.

Also don't forget the Mikey Hollander exists.

Then Hellmers at 3rd base.

I'm sensing a pattern as it relates to players from a certain high school.

I’m a little surprised Beloso hasn’t gotten a few more starts there. I don’t ever remember him being a liability in the field.

He wasn't bad defensively his freshman year but Jay wasn't here for that. And he got a couple starts at 1B early on this year and made some mistakes so he lost his chance I guess. Probably just rusty but oh well. I'm pretty indifferent. The occasional time that Jones misplays a ball at 1st is worth it for the lineup it allows us to have.

Putting Travinski in RF is just ridiculous. A lot of yall undervalue OF defense and overvalue 1B. An error in the OF is usually much more costly

If Jay was being serious about Jones playing in the OF next year then I don't know why we haven't seen him and Morgan swap positions. If Jones can be a serviceable OF then you can put him and Morgan both in the OF and Beloso/Jobert at 1B/DH with Travinski catching for the most offensive lineup imaginable

I may have missed something, haven't been here in a while but why has Jones not seen time at C? He was the #4 ranked catcher in HS and #1 in Georgia last year right? Travinsky has issues with catching defensively and even Milazzo has not been himself defensively (though he has improved with the bat).

Lineup could be

1. 2B Dugas
2. 1B Morgan
3. CF Crews
4. 3B White
5. DH Beloso
6. C Jones
7. SS Thompson
8. RF Travinski
9. LF Kling

again, sorry if the Jones at Catcher topic has been covered.

You guys kill me. Y’all gripe about our defensive play, yet you want to put a non-athletic guy who has never played in the outfield in the starting lineup in right field.

Yeah, I didn't get it really either...just following the lead there. My main question was about Jones behind the plate.

Jones has done fine at first base considering he is a freshman playing out of position. He is a big target and catches what is catchable. We have at least one infielder who can't throw the ball to first base consistently.

I'm not against playing Jones, but I think it is apparent in more recent games that he cannot play first base like Morgan. It is very rare for Morgan to not make the play needed to bail out our weak arm throws in the infield. IF they weren't so unpredictable, I would stick with Jones. But they are and under pressure in upcoming more pressure games, our pitchers simply can't afford giving extra outs.
three players bring the same skill ....Travinski, Jones, and Beloso. Beloso should only be used against righties, no lefties. Jones needs to identify and be able to hit an SEC level curve/slider....so far not so good. Travinski is seeing and hitting better than the other two at the moment. LSU should find a place for him over the other two until that changes. Morgan at first for the rest of the year, and pinch it the others as the situation calls. There will be many more opportunities for errors at first base than Left field.

That might work once we get to Omaha, when he has pitched his last game. Who knows if he has kept up with this fielding and batting skills.
