Freshman seasons
Eason- 7.3ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.3bpg
Leblanc- 9.1ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.1bpg

I did a Per 40 comparison to see what that looked like if you're curious:

Leblanc - 14.9 ppg, 12 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.8 bpg, 1.8 TOV
Eason - 14.9 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.4 spg, 2.6 bpg, 4.4 TOV

Here are some other notable stats to compare their freshman years:

Leblanc - FT% - 69.5%, FG% - 63.0%
Eason - FT% - 57.2%, FG% - 46.2%

Seems he's more active in the steals, assists, and blocks, but has a really poor FG% and FT% and a really bad turnover problem.

Not saying he won't develop though and/or be better with better coaching.

Well there’s a caveat here in that Leblanc was used entirely different at LSU than he was at Georgetown and he didn’t really excel in the new role though he did help us with depth. I’m comparing them skill wise and athletically and I see a lot of the same things in what they can and can’t do. I do think Eason is a little more fluid where as Leblanc is more quick twitch and like you said “in your face” but I agree we’ll likely see them together or in similar roles at LSU.

Put on the tape. He’s more athletic than Leblanc & may even develop into a stretch player

He’s automatically the guy in the front court. Almost by default, but clearly the most talented guy on the roster now

Yep, good comparison, very similar in the major categories with some trade off in others. Very similar players.

Gotcha. Yeah I didn't see Leblanc at Georgetown either so don't know what he looks like in other schemes. A lot of what I'm going off of was just seeing him at the top of our zone where his role was to disrupt and make that first pass difficult and uncomfortable.

He did shoot it 71% from FT on 63 attempts in the AAU circuit. He had 47 attempts last season. I wonder which of the two FT samples will be more accurate next season.

He’s definitely going to help us and my hope is that our front line guys collectively can return to being more active on the offensive glass the way they were the two seasons prior. We need to get back to pressuring the circle and creating more second chance points instead of the perimeter only style we had this year.

Can someone give us a projected starting five with two reserves?

We’re still hoping for some transfers with Miller being the prize so not sure who’ll start right now but it’s safe to assume Wade will play as small as possible.

Besides Eason being good & Leblanc not being very good, yea

We all get that your schtick is being the constant contrarian, but this take is just baseless for the sake of being baseless.

Eason's freshman stats are virtually the same as Leblanc's freshman season at Georgetown. In fact, you could argue Leblanc was slightly better overall. Leblanc averaged 9 ppg, 7 rpg, 1.1 bpg on 63% shooting in 24 minutes in his first year at Georgetown. Eason averaged 7 ppg, 6 rpg, 1.3 bpg on 46% shooting in 20 minutes in his first year at Cincinnati

Both were on the all freshman teams. Both were solid defenders and rebounders. Both were decent shot blockers. Neither were tremendous offensive players beyond dunks/putbacks. If you like the +/- stats Leblanc has been better in that category than Eason.

The reality is Leblanc was kind of out of sorts with what LSU wanted to do last year. He wasn't an offensive option, at all, on last year's team. He was one of the few guys who tried to defend on a team that seemed allergic to doing so. Half the time he was asked to go out and guard wings/guards on the perimeter trying to get deflections rather than being around the goal in position to rebound and block shots. Eason had similar numbers to what Leblanc had in his only season at Georgetown. But now both will be playing for LSU and there is no way to fully know in advance if what Eason did at Cincinnati will translate to what Wade wants to do at LSU. I suspect if Wade asks him to play the same game he asked Leblanc to play this year, at the same usage rate, then Eason's numbers will likely look the same.

Can Eason be the better player at LSU? Maybe. But it is absurd to look at his numbers at Cincy and say "Oh. He'll come in an do the same thing at LSU" when CLEARLY that didn't happen for Leblanc coming from Georgetown. LSU plays a different style and will ask different things of both guys that what they were asked to do at their previous schools.

There are so many new faces that projecting a starting 5 and rotation is tough. Guys I think will play big minutes:

Pinson
Gaines
Knight
Mwani
Leblanc
IF Miller comes, he's in this group for sure.

Guys I think will play and could start/be key bench contributors if they show well:

Fudge
Colbert
Eason
O'neal
Murray

Will have to develop to earn minutes:

Ezewiro
Gray

No. Eason is much more skilled on the offensive end.

It’s baseless because you are able to compare their freshmen stats, & they look alike?

So that automatically means Eason develops like Leblanc has? A soon to be 22yr old that has not improved ? Is that the game you’re playing?

I’m not even convinced Leblanc is on LSU’s roster next year

Lester is the worst talent evaluator by far on The Rant. For him to say something like Eason is the most talented player on the roster is a perfect example of this.

You’re basing this off of last season where he had zero opportunities on the offensive end but look at when he did. He produced more even being able to knock down 3s when called upon and paying the small forward spot at Georgetown.

And LSU now has to fight even harder to get past Alabama and Arkansas in the West.

I get what you are saying; but there is no East/West in basketball; so LSU has more than just those 2 to get past.

In addition to them, TN brings in the #2 recruiting class this year and brings back Fulkerson and some others off a good team this year.

Florida will be strong and Auburn will bounce back, especially with what they are bring in, which is the #5 player (Jabari Smith), a top 100 player, and a transfer center that was a 5 star and is 7'1".

And it is hard to see Kentucky having a repeat of this season. That means there are 7 very strong teams, including LSU, for next season, plus Missouri and Ole Miss will always be tough outs. SEC is looking rough in 2021-22.

The good news is Rick Barnes is their coach. Looking forward to seeing who replaces Javonte in tearing that defense apart.
