What about 60 scouts at a HS game? Don't be a smart arse if you have no clue. I realize dads lie. Oh and there's also the fact this isn't my kid and I am not repeating information from a dad. But you swing away slugger.

C'mon bro. Kids these days can hit a fastball no matter how hard you throw it. My son's teammate was the National POY. Early in the season he was topping out at 96MPH and was getting hit every game.

Umm I assume this is Luken Baker. Yea he can throw 95-96. He had like a 1.00 ERA in 6A Texas Baseball in Houston. Thats not exactly "getting hit"

Nice ERA but I was at every game and trust me when I say he was getting hit.

A 1.1 guy is some who is in the running for the 1st overall pick. Round 1, Pick 1

I think he may his freshman and sophomore year but beyond that if he's the starting QB it will be difficult for him to be a starter, could be a bullpen guy.

I didn't see it elsewhere

LSU LHP Jake Latz has successful surgery, could return to throwing in three months

and

Whitty, May, Laird no longer with program after roster moves to get down to 35.

...wasted signing ... will never get to campus .. why do we keep doing this ... the secret is to get quality players that will actually show up , yes ?

Exactly, Smoke would sign 5 of those guys, thats a problem. This kid will likely go to the pros but he's at least a possibility based on his background. Thats what vandy does, they recruit rich kids and they make it to campus.

Vandy has also gotten very "creative" with minority or leadership scholarships in the past few years.

Question - so LSU should have just passed on Alex Lange because he was "too good" and would likely be drafted??!!

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. IMO, I'd rather aim high, miss on a few, and fill in the holes with talented, Louisiana kids.

The vast majority of our signees DO show up, yes. Even very highly rated players....Alex Bregman, for example.

Strictly luck there. If not for the injury his senior year he was not coming to LSU. Vandy is the only one that can talk their high draft picked signees into actually show up due to their unique situation in which they actually manipulate the scholly rule.

Agreed. Bregmans' bad luck was our good fortune.

But there is always the possibility of an injury in their senior HS year dropping a high draft pick down to where he will come to school like what happened to AB.

If we don't sign them to start with, somebody else will and if the injury bug bites the guy and he drops down in the draft, he goes somewhere else instead of to LSU.

I empathize with all baseball coaches in their recruiting. They are criticized when a top guy ops for MLB and they are criticized if they don't go after the best players who might have a chance of playing in college.
