Nobody saw Walker and Hess turning into what they were.
Hess was the highly touted guy. Walker was the "surprise" not in that he got the first shot at the 3rd starter but that he turned into the most consistent of the 3.

Nobody was expecting Hess to turn into a monster as a closer late in the season. Especially not after the rocky mid week action.

If I remember correctly Pelican, we were a preseason consensus top 4, ended up sharing SEC title, won SEC tourney, top 8 Seed,

And, "we weren't supposed to make the CWS"?

A lot of fans and ball players disagree with that statement.

Now, this year is different, but the expectations are still high. So, he might look good if he says that about this year's team

Walker was a great surprise to the fan base, I think coaches knew what they had.
He had great command of the zone and found the holes in their swings all year. Was a pleasure to watch him pitch. He never seemed to get to those "Poche" moments.

Can just hope his rehab goes great and he can come back next year.

Poche was amazing early, and then cooled off a bit later. Was his normal self, which was still good enough.

Walker struggled some early, and was great later, until his injury.

LSU Baseball Prediction Thread
I predict LSU baseball will go undefeated, win the SEC and SEC tournament, win the Baton Rouge Regional and Super Regional, win the College World Series and posters on the Rant will call for Mainieri to be fired.

I think the pitching will take them from ending up #3 in the SEC to as low as #8.

The hitting should be solid, the hope is for Smith, Slaughter, Cabrera, Watson, and Jordan to show more power consistently.

Defense and speed should be spectacular as usual.

Catcher is still a question. But yeah, this year will come down to pitching. 3 new weekend starters and relying on a ton of new guys for a lot of innings.

I expect Feduccia to catch about 48 of the 56 regular season games.

Two JUCO freshmen are committed at catcher for next class. They will come in as sophomores. I think the staff wants to protect from the possibility that Feduccia signs after this year and CJ Willis never makes it to campus.

It is, losing Doolittle doesn't hurt this year but they have to bank on CJ Willis turning down the pros this summer.

I think Hunter Feduccia is one of the more polished well rounded transfers LSU's brought in the last few years.

edit: Project talk about reading my mind

It will be. A couple of the freshman and transfers will have immediate impacts which is a necessity, for LSU to have their usual run 2-3 of them need to contribute day to day.

I would be surprised if there are any weekday games that aren't Johnny Wholestaff (not counting two game weeks).

I think we lost something like 65% of the innings thrown last year. It's ridiculous.

I don't think this team has any trouble hitting the ball. I think the pitching will take a while to really smooth out, with a strong finish. I don't know about SEC titles and CWS berths and all that, but I think those of us that are level headed will be happy with where the team is going into 2019.
