I can guarantee you Jay was not sorry to see Neal in the portal at all.
Someone was driving that train and Neal didn’t try to stop it. Bye.

Frey will have to come back and prove that he can play somewhere defensively for draft purposes.
No he won't. His bat will get him drafted. They have the minor leagues for a reason. They've seen him run and they know his athletic history and profile. There are enough reps available in minor leagues that they will be able to make him a good enough OF or 1B.
Even without having played a position for 3 years, there are fewer questions about how he would translate to the field than Bear Jones had to answer. Jones is a stiffer athlete, less moldable.

Project I take it from this you expect Frey to leave in the draft?
I had him as someone that we could possibly get back to improve draft stock by playing a position. That is likely my P&G glasses being hopeful and certainly didn't think it was 100% just a possibility. He sure has been fun to have on the team this year and would love another year to watch him improve.

I’m hopeful that he comes back for his senior year. But he has def improved stock over the last month and if he stays hot he could put himself in favorable draft spot. He certainly has shown his tool kit and everyone is seeing it not just us.

I expect someone to offer him a lot of money. And as much I would like to see him come back, his best choice would probably be to take the money.
The type of year he'd have to have next year to offset being a year older and being a senior would have to be something in the neighborhood of what Bryce Harper did at College of Southern Nevada. And he'd have to do it while playing CF or C.

Thanks for your input. He has had a hell of a year and is really turning it on at the end of the year. He deserves and has earned whatever he gets.
Would still do backflips if somehow he came back.

It's different for pitchers though. Pitchers coming back for an additional year is not necessarily as bad for their long term career.

Frey is probably going to get offered enough to sign, but if we can get really competitive with NIL, it may be worth his time to come back even forfeiting all his leverage for the next draft.
Really just all depends on what an MLB team ultimately offers him for a signing bonus; if it's high six figures or greater, he should probably sign. If its mid to low six figures, we can get very competitive with NIL and perhaps get him to stay and promise to put him in the field.

Frey is gone dude. Did you watch the regional?

We have no clue ultimately what MLB teams will come at him with, again, it all comes down to numbers. If we can get very competitive with what an MLB team is throwing his way, and we certainly would prioritize throwing a good amount his way to return, that opportunity can exist where he does come back.
I dont expect him back at all, but it doesnt mean there isnt a path to that happening.

I don’t think it’s in question any longer. That triple off the wall is prospect porn.

Project, What are thoughts on Noot and Shores who will still have leverage after redshirting last year?

Priester had more power than Frey and had a high average in JUCO and the fall. I was really hoping to see him emerge.

You really serious? he went 0 for 8 in the first 2 games against that deep pitching staff of Little Rock.
Yea probably a Top 5 rd pick after the Regional he had . LMAO...

Frey can also do a lot of things around the field. First, OF, Catcher. Jones reminds me of Dean in that he had the power but no where to play. He tried shoulder surgery and came back his senior year just to show he could play a position but it still didn’t work out. Not saying Jones is a bad 1B just that it’s not a premium position.

my biggest concerns left on the roster would be larson and reaves
If you lose Larson then you losing an OF, a guy who can hit, a veteran, etc, etc
If you lose Reaves you lose absolutely nothing . He needs to be at Southeastern or Nicholls St

If you can’t see Frey is one of the best prospects on this team, idk what to tell you.

What sucks is you basically get one year of Frey and Anderson as impact players.
