I agree with u with everything u said except the coming from juco and having experience , until you play for lsu and play in the sec not too mention it's your first time playing everyday, i consider that said player to be new and learning. Jmo

Dude...again...we are playing EKU and NSU. We should beat these teams on talent alone. If we went and lost two in Houston against experienced upper level teams I would agree. But, we are playing against teams that have a 1/4 of the talent we have on this roster. Stop coming up with a ton of excuses. We got beat by teams that have no business beating us. Also, in two games we scored a total of 1 run in 18 innings. That’s an absolute joke.

I look at it as we have 4 returning position players that have regular experience in Beloso, Cabrera, Hughes and Garza. It looks like Mainieri is trying to get Hughes and Garza off the field. Obviously Garza will DH, but you're only playing 2 guys in the field that played that same position at any regularity last year.

Now why don't you do the pitching staff?

Even a lot of these guys have missed time so they're not overly experienced either.

Lol, one position player from tonight started at that position last year. Between all of the weekend starters you have what, 20 starts give or take?
What the frick are you talking about.
Out of the 8 position players that started, 5 were not on the team last year.

So we need a team full of juniors to be considered veterans? At LSU most of the juniors are in their final season of college ball.

Four of LSU’s best 5 pitchers are sophomores

What planet are you living on right now?

I'm done arguing it. Project has posted actual data to prove that this is one of the most veterans teams under Mainieri. Like I said, I think the third. I'll bump this thread and post it as soon as I get him to repost.

If you don't want to wait, feel free to find it in his post history.

How u figure making it into a regional would get pm fired. Last yr we went 17 and 13 right with experience. How could going 17 and 13 with all these young players in the sec and getting a regional would get pm fired?

I dont wish any man to be fired in life but I do believe he could retire and let a new proven coach come in and give the team a new heartbeat...

If we "slip" into a regional then that's ridiculous. We better be hosting.

They have sophomores that are veterans. I’m not saying all our sophomores are veterans.... but I would consider Beloso a veteran.

Not to be that guy but...I had 3 sons that all played college baseball. These kids that travel are vastly more trained than kids 15-20 yrs ago. The gulf is not nearly as large between a freshman in college and a Jr., like it once was. Kids have taken thousands more swings and have gone through advanced throwing programs by the time they get to school. JUCO is not like playing elite high school ball. There are many kids playing JUCO that got drafted but not high enough and want to improve draft stock w/o 3 yrs at school. JUCO is like going to Baseball school. It's all they so!

Anyway...sorry for the book. I agree we have talent but just don't have the aura around this program like we used to.

It doesn’t need to be a team full of Jrs.

But when 11 of 15 guys are Fr & Soph, that’s not a veteran team

I’d consider Cabrera, Garza & Hughes all veterans. And Hughes isn’t good. So that’s that.

I'm sure p has a "time clock" on players since "they walked on campus" but those stats and a players actual "age" and "playing maturity in the sec" are completely two different animals...this team is young.

Because you are fricking wrong. I am talking about the team on the field, not walk ons and relievers that get 2 innings a week.
This is a very young Team.

Beloso obviously started a lot of games last year. Still wouldn’t consider him a veteran

Consider last years team & how many games at LSU Watson, duplesis, Josh smith and Chris Reid played.

They were mature both in class & experience.

If those guys are veterans, Cade beloso can’t be one too.

I agree as far as kids playing year round and reps etc but let me ask you. If it came down to the last batter of which all of the players played travel ball thru the yrs, hs ball, multi state travel ball, AAU etc to get a hit and win the game perhaps to get that win in the sec tourney to even impress the selection committee to give lsu a regional bid...who would u rather bat?

Toups(1st yr and represents all freshmen)
Dugas(2nd yr represents all sophomores)
Cabrera(3rd yr and started 3 yrs most experience in the sec at the plate.)

It's a no brainer

This is the difference....this team is young...

Therein is the problem...as of today, I wouldn't want any of them! I would take Mathis and he's a JUCO guy.

The pitching staff has alot of experience. We are very young and inexperienced at the plate and in the field.

The SEC is going to be really tough, especially for hitters. We're going to need some leadership, grit, and winning chess plays to be on the good side of low scoring games.

I really liked Mathis leading off and Cabrera in the 3-hole. I also liked Cranford getting the nod at SS. It is going to take alot of experimenting to find the right combo with this group, but the potential is certainly there.
