If we trim the coaching staff by one, can't we keep 36 players? Any suggestions on which coach to cut?

I don't know if they have to count Reynolds towards the 35 or not.

I think if you start the spring knowing the player is injured and will not be active at all, then he does not require a spot on the 35; but once they make the official 35 man roster, injury or whatever else, you don't get the spot back. I believe the rosters are officially set on Feb 13th.
ETA: The exception is any player on a scholarship (max of 27) must count to the roster of 35. So basically anyone who will be injured for the whole season would have forfeit his scholarship for that semester (or year maybe?) in order not to count against the 35.

11.5 limit may be the most ridiculous rule in all of the NCAA.

Title IX + "Non-Revenue Sport"
And 11.7 is JUST for D1.
D2- 9 Max Allowed
D3- 0
NJCAA- 24
NAIA - 12
Why so many for NJCAA and NAIA? Most of the schools don't have football competing for scholarships vs. girl sports.
Also, It's at the schools discretion to match the scholarship numbers (Title IX). Meaning most schools don't use the max for this reason or financial limitations.

Reading through some of the bylaws and I found a fairly new rule that I was not aware of...
Probably doesn't come into play too often, but it is something I was unaware of.
quote:
15.5.4.1.2 Exception—Final Year of Eligibility and Not Previously Aided.
An institution may provide less than 25 percent of an equivalency to a student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is in the final year of eligibility and has not previously received athletically related financial aid in baseball. (Adopted: 4/26/12 effective 8/1/12)

Or, it could be a 5th year senior who has used up his TOPS eligibility.

Kinda. Pretty much throwing a loyalty bone if you give a final year guy between 0 and 24% of a scholarship.

Good call there.
My point though is it doesn't help the quality, middle-of-the-road guys who aren't studs but are good enough to start by year two for the best programs in the country. Those guys get the shaft because 2-4 fulls go to ace pitchers and can't-miss position players and the rest (~8 scholarships) have to be split among 20 guys. Then, 10 or so have nothing at all.
