Since Kyle Bouman's name is in the thread title, I'll share a little story about him.

He went to high school with a few of my cousins here in St Louis. Somewhere around his junior year, his parents stopped paying his tuition. The school didn't want to kick him out and allow him to miss out on the fine Jesuit education they offer, so they let him stay through graduation.

Bouman ends up signing with Witchita St out of high school and even enrolls there. But since his parents never paid tuition, the school never released his transcripts. So he was never able to get eligible at Witchita St.

The newspaper or something ran a story about him and other parents at the high school chipped in and paid what was owed and he eventually was able to go on and pitch at JeffCo, where we ultimately recruited him.

Thanks for the story. There's a story on him in the OP as well. LINK

I don't know about his parents, but it seems he had other personal issues too. And it looks like he's turned things around.

Wow. Was that because of a financial squeeze on the parents or did they have a falling out with their son?

I've heard this story from my uncle whose three kids went to school with Bouman, and another cousin who went there years ago and is friends with the baseball coach there and his son that coaches at Arkansas now.

Neither of them knew why they stopped paying.

ETA: I think it was really nice of the school to not kick him out. It really is a good school. But to the parents that chipped in to help the kid out.

Thanks for the info. If the boy wore out his welcome with his parents, that doesn't bode well for his being on the team. Unless, of course, he has matured since then.

I know of some parents who told their kid who was making bad grades at an expensive private school that he could just as easily make bad grades at a free public school, so say adios to the private school. Maybe it was a situation like that.

My cousin that knows the baseball coach said he's a good kid. I don't think the school would have let him stay around if he were a behavioral problem.

Remember last year when our "NFL ready" players showed the same emotion and desire as JFF in the Chicken Bowl?

I love it that LSU shut him down twice, but JFF was must watch tv for me the last year and a half.
