But, the majority of students back "in the day" were just as vulgar as this group of students.

Not as a whole, sorry. Individually? Absolutely! Which is why the accusation that us "old folks" don't understand is mindless nonsense.

But you know as well as I do that when crowds began chanting "bullshite!" in unison at bad calls in the 80's it was considered shocking. It was only "shocking" because crowds, despite how vulgar they may be individually, didn't do that sort of thing in unison. Things change and now you get students screaming,, ""frick you, Auburn!" Fine...passion rules. But there's just now way the LSU administration is going to set that type of thing to music. No one can be that naive. If we, as LSU fans, expect to ever get these songs back, this will have to stop. if is doesn't they will be gone for good and all the bitching about how everyone needs to lighten up will be worthless.

That all being said, I'm not offended at all. I've never understood the need to labels words either good or bad. In my mind, they are all just words. And yet, I comprehend that despite my view on this there are clearly times and places where certain words can and do cause the majority to get upset, offended, etc. When it can be heard clear as a bell on national TV would be a fine example. It's honestly not that hard, and has nothing to do with being loud or ferocious as can be as a crowd.

Don't get me wrong, wish they would cut it out so we could get the songs back. But I don't see that ever happening. I'd rather have the songs and live with a few seconds of vulgarity.

How long did it take them to end the flying cups after each score? That was actual harm being caused. Seems like it was the early 2000s before you saw that end. Started before I got in the student section in 92.

Apples and Oranges.

The flying cups is something that the whole stadium DOESN'T miss.

Collective (clean) chants via the band is something that the vulgar few are ruining for the entire stadium......including themselves. But they are too stupid and immature to understand...but then blame it on the PC police....

Get it?

Saw Southern's band at the Saints game and it put TGBFTL to shame. It was actually exciting and fun to watch

To each his own. When the Southern band took the field at the Saints game, I took that time to get up and go to the pisser, hoping it would be over by the time I got back.

Get over it. Some people act like they so are so righteous and pure. I enjoy Tiger Rag and Neck and really don't care what the students scream. In unison or not. I'm a grown man, I won't get AIDs or Herpes or Hepetitas or the Flu because the student section screamed suck that tiger dick.

I don't think other college student bodies chant things like STTDB loud enough that every little old lady, or TV audience can clearly understand it.

Horrible cursing and sexual chants are still ugly, demeaning, and pretty much defines the person doing it as low class at best. It is a terrible reputation to have on a national level and goes along with the other harassing things done to visiting fans outside the stadium.

Unfortunately, this has come to represent what LSU is all about to a LOT of people from out of state. This behavior doesn't need defending, enabling or rationalization...

8 year old at first tiger game: "Mommy, what are they saying? What does STTDB mean?"

Old ladys that went to LSU still chant "Geaux to hell Ole Miss Geaux to hell"
No pics, but witnessed it when I went to one of those Les Miles shows one year against Ole Miss. Damn those women hate Ole Miss.

And I am sure chanting Geaux to Hell back in their day was as vulgar as what the student section chants now.

So you hold LSU chants on the same level as the National Anthem?

I see...it's that you're incapable of having a discussion without hyperbole. Good to know.

Carry on insinuating the LSU administration's ultimate goal is to silence the students while missing just how easy it would be to get these things back with even the tiniest bit of self restraint.

Again...your argument seems to be far more interested in excusing obnoxious behavior rather than supporting the easy fix to get back what you want. If the only option as you see it is to get the songs back AND chant profanities, then you're going to make sure the former never happens.

Don't worry though, they will make a sound proof bubble around the student section soon enough.
Just move the little darlings up to the West Upper Deck. That will solve the problem. They can yell STTDB all they want and it will just dissipate on up into the Ethers unheard. Open up those prime student section seats to the public and bring back the traditional Tiger Rag.

BTW, not the band's call. We miss Neck too. Don't blame the band, blame the athletic department for not allowing it to even be played during timeouts.
Blame the FCC for threatening to fine the university for hearing it on TV broadcasts. Blame CBS and ESPN for insisting on miking the student section, but don't blame the band. They miss it more than anyone else.

You missed my point, it takes a long time to get rid of something EVERYONE can't stand. I don't have the answer to the current issue and want the songs back.

I agree. Hell, I'll even go so far as to say at least the "bullshite" chants were/are reactionary. The cussing and vulgarities chanted by the student section, along with being trahsy and painting LSU fans as clasless, aren't even funny or creative. It's like an 8 year old saying a "bad" word, and having his other 8 year old friends snicker because "Mikey said a bad word." It is literally being vulgar just for the sake of being vulgar. All it serves to do is paint LSU in a negative light. I see no problem with the administration shutting the songs down, especially considering the fact that a nationally broadcast football game is one of, if not the biggest promotional opportunity for the school. The LSU leaders have a vested interest in ensuring that LSU doesn't present poorly to the millions watching across the country. If the students can't figure that out, then maybe they're just too stupid to be in college in the first place.

Who told you this particular anecdote? I get why the administration doesn't want Tiger Band to play a song that is accompanied by a vulgar chant, but I've heard the potential FCC fine mentioned before and don't buy it. Sounds like something Roy came up with to give band members an excuse when asked about why they no longer play Neck.

Where did you hear that story?

The athletic dept has the answer. Stop playing it and the little kids won't have their sorry excuse for acting like imbeciles. Like a teen's iPhone. She starts acting up, take her toys away. Sad but true.

Always found it ironic when females in the stands would chime in...seems derogatory to women who like to suck...
