Really dumb response, and ironic considering the Jackie Robinson movie just came out.

You're saying that 13-17 year olds who have committed suicide in part due to ridicule for being gay shouldn't be so sensitive? WTF is wrong with you?

do you know a gay person? If so, I would encourage you to simply ask them if they choose to be gay.
To imply they choose to be gay you are also saying you choose to be straight. At what point in your life did you choose to be straight?
I have gay family members and friends as well, and never cared to ask. It is impossible to know if you choose to be gay or straight, or if you are born that way without science. I chose early on that I wanted a girlfriend and not a boyfriend. That's not the point. My point is that he should be able to say what he wants without being shat upon, regardless if it offends anyone. I don't like many of the things people say, but I don't call them ignorant or short-sided, just because I disagree with what has been said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even you.

1. So when Blue says he was being facetious and you don't believe him are you wrong because you are trying to read his mind? Your unguarded comments show you don't place an appropriate value on the truth. I can tell that without needing to be a mind-reader.
2. Whether or not Blue sounded like an ignorant idiot, you sure seem overly bothered by it. Lighten up.
3. Yes - your behavior is problematic. It is the same behavior that college administrators and corporate compliance officers use to compel people to attend diversity or "tolerance" seminars. We're not really talking about tolerance but compliance with a particular worldview. This compliance usually takes the form of escalating penalties until the "correct" opinion is expressed. What is the real consequence or harm of the boorish opinion of a student athlete? The self-righteous opinion of a modern-day champion of "tolerance" who is simply looking at enforcing compliance with his world-view is much more problematic.
I also value tolerance and diversity but I ground my beliefs in the truth and in charity. These are two things I see lacking your posts.

So you are saying that the interview should have been ok'd?
My point was that you don't have to agree or disagree with homosexuality to acknowledge that being gay or not being gay has no effect on whether or not you can play football. What he said sounded like he was taking a shot at gay men.
I was okay with the interview to answer your question. Just not what he said. Belonging to a group doesn't make you a sissy....unless its a group exclusively for sissies.

I should meet Alfred Blue. Seems like he hasn't met many gay men., or at least the masculine ones.

you realize that is textbook definition of ignorance right?

That is EXACTLY why as someone who works for Sports Information you shouldnt let the interview take place. You may not know for certainty how it will end, but if you would have told me "We are going to ask Alfred Blue what he thinks about gays in sports". As an SID I would have responded
"
My point is, regardless of his opinion they pay people to make sure these guys dont do shite like this, so where was that guy?

Exactly. The athlete can't win in this situation. He will draw controversy no matter how he answers.

I don't disagree but the other guys handled the bullshite question pretty well.
I'm surprised the dipshit reporter didn't ask them about Islam/suicide bombers or date rape or something else controversial too.

Exactly. The athlete can't win in this situation. He will draw controversy no matter how he answers
and also, this is why schools have SID's and why athletes who speak to the press undergo training on how to handle things like this.
1. the SID shouldn't have allowed the question
2. the athlete can decline to answer
worst case scenario is, "alfred blue wont give his opinion on having a gay teamate"
wow, what a headline...

Even if I do ask them, how can they know with absolute certainty that they were born that way? Would it not be their "opinion"? Unless of course one of your friends or family is a scientist who has done the research to determine said quandry. If this is true, then your gay friends are ignorant for their statements with "no evidence." As far as what we disagree on, I have conceded that it probabably was the wrong thing to say, but it happened and we should move on as a society, and not dwell on little BS like this. We have much bigger problems than someone saying gays can't play football.

So he's not entitled to his opinion? Why are all the "right things" on the pro homo side of the issue?
