How do you do that when you have a team which struggled mightily with Louisiana Tech and beat Western Kentucky by just the skin of their teeth, and has a history of losing to Troy, Miami (Ohio) and UAB?

It's better to open up with Clemson, USC, UCLA, Florida State, Arizona State, etc than one of the Group Of Five "weak sisters." You can lose to a P4 team and not become a laughingstock.

Texas’ close loss to Ohio State (AT OSU) kept them out of the playoff this year.

Nope. Not even close. Texas lost two other games for a total of THREE losses that kept them out of the playoffs. (One of those was to a Florida team with a 6-2 conference record.) UT@Austin could have made the playoffs had they only had two losses - to OSU and UGA.

If making the playoffs is ultra important then you need to stop scheduling these tough non sec opponents. Yea it would suck for the fans but the first time they miss the playoffs like Texas is about to do they will start screaming. If Texas would have scheduled Rice instead of Ohio State they would be in the playoffs. I would also NOT schedule Notre Dame either until they join a fricking conference. They are getting preferential treatment every year because of their wins with most against easy teams. So screw ND

I don't care about the regular season. Only the playoffs matter. Schedule all cupcakes during the regular season.

And be left out like ND was for playing middle school teams all year. So actually you don’t care about the playoffs…….

If you can’t win the big games you don’t deserve to be in a playoff.

Committee needs replacing and then new parameters set

easy path to the playoffs

But they WON that game against Texas, which another poster said should have even been played!

The trick is simple: if your schedule starts out with an elite opponent, win that game! If you look at Saban's run at Bama, his teams always started with a high-profile opponent. You need those games to build character and a winning mindset. Why open up vs Grambling, or Southern, or East Texas A&M? Nobody wants to see those games; they're little more than scrimmages with a team logo.

Oxford MS is set to make 75m in revenue for a CFP game being played there….. other reports show the state of Louisiana would make upwards of 200 Million if LSU hosts a CFP game…. Scrap the early season premiere games, especially with a 9 game SEC schedule. It’s just dumb going forward

Im fine with cancelling games in the future, but home and aways should be filled as they have been started.

If we cant beat Clemson next year we wont be competing for a playoff spot anyways.

I get what you are saying, and would agree with you for cancelling a series with them... If it was for 29/30 season. I don't think with this committee, you need to schedule big series that far in advance... HOWEVER, they showed us their "death valley" last season... They need to see and feel the real death valley this next season.

Frick that noise OP. We're gonna get the return game from Clemson so their fans can come in to see the real Death Valley. (We never got the return game in TS from Texas)

That's a completely different situation. They aren't in a conference. Though they signed an agreement to play 4/5 games against ACC opponents, everything is OOC.

I dont think SOS counts in WBB...I hear sports commentators and voters talk about who played who and by how much they won or lost by when picking playoff teams.

If Texas had lost to only Michigan they would be in the playoffs.

For the 10,000,000th time for the idiots in the back:

WE ARE NOW REQUIRED BY THE SEC TO PLAY 1 P4 OOC GAME PER YEAR. So you don’t cancel one to turn around and have to replace it, paying both a buyout and a hefty sum to lock down a new opponent.

This has been in pace for months. Wake up and pay attention.

Damn.

All SEC teams are required to play a p4 game so no they wouldn’t cancel it
