I think of LSU as one entity, sports and academics. I will donate to both as soon as Miles is gone. That's fine if you see it differently. It's just how I view LSU, primarily as a sports fan.

Like somebody else said, no one will notice my lack of donations for the next year or so until Miles gets himself fired... unless donations drop overall.

Well, which is it?

Also, do you stop talking to your cousin when you get into an argument with your mom?

LSU is one entity, which includes sports and academics. Another poster pointed out that it's "not unheard of" to donate to both. I agree and probably should start donating to more than just TAF, I've just got Miles fatigue too bad to open any envelopes from LSU right now.

The reason why a lot of LSU graduates do not contribute to the university is the vast majority of them graduate drowning in debt, with no real hope of making more than $35,000, and after a few months they run into those "losers" who never went to college making 4 times what they are making and they are slightly pissed off.

I had lots of student loans to pay off, true. Doing pretty good now however and can afford to donate to academics too. One reason I haven't is I just got a generic BA at LSU which was more like majoring in beer and chasing tail. I did my grad work elsewhere and care more about LSU football than any academic department I admit.

You guys have successfully broshamed me into donating to LSU academics now too (but only after Miles is gone)

No, I don't claim to be a "heavy donor," but no more checks from me until a coaching change is made. Miles has made my arse quit.

I'm sure that the fundraisers at the Alumni Center are very upset about you.

Maybe not, but I'm still not gonna give one more penny until Miles is replaced

Sorry for liking football

This is an LSU sports message board, right?

It's not like I don't care about LSU academics at all, just not as much as LSU football. Probably most of us on here feel the same way

Without school and without STUDENT athletes, you wouldn't have a team to cheer for.

If anyone invests that much money into a shitty degree that they know won't get them a job making more money then who is to blame?

My apologies.

I just get tired of the negativity and misinformation spouted on this board.

The Rant was once a solid place for information. Now it is a cesspool.

However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the recent events involving Coach Les Miles will not inspire anyone to donate moving forward.

No, but it would take a rocket science to help make sense as to why this particular statement by you would be the case.

You really have no clue. Posters here have tried to help you understand, but you refuse. You keep tying Miles to something that has been happening WELL before he was here.

Well you aren't giving. You are paying for services received. There is a difference.

If I ask whether you'd rather have the best public University academically among all the schools of the SEC OR have Jimbo Fisher as the head football coach, and you say Jimbo, you need to be smacked. Of course no one will say they'd rather have Jimbo, but in people's heart of hearts I bet there would be a lot of votes for Jimbo over the school. The donor rates to TAF versus the LSU Foundation reflect that. And that's part of the reason why we have a mediocre University.

To paraphrase The Program: "80,000 people never showed up on a Saturday to watch a kid do a science experiment"

And to address the issue of alumni donations, I have never once received a letter from LSU in the almost 10 years since I have graduated asking for a donation towards academics. And to put into perspective how sad that is, I get several per year from the middle school I attended for 3 years

This may have a lot to do with people being unsure if donations will be used responsibly.

I believe LSU does a poor job in reaching out to alumni and requesting donations for academic purposes. My fellow Aggie and Michigan co-workers get contacted by their universities for donations. LSU has not contacted me and my friends for anything. I think the problem is that the university is not reaching out to alumni. I was not aware of the problem until this post on Tiger Droppings . Having said that, just made a donation. Thank you Tiger Droppings. LPLG.
