The Tigers last week finished adding Daronte Jones to run their defense and nabbed Miami’s Blake Baker days later to complete their on-field staffing maneuvers.

Coach Ed Orgeron also tabbed Andre Carter to tutor the Tigers’ defensive linemen.

In Siefkes, who’s worked under noted defensive mind Josh Conklin at both Wofford and Florida International, the Tigers have positioned themselves to add a strong tactician who can assist in game-planning, film studies and more elements.

Siefkes, who worked at the Air Force Academy in a strength and conditioning element, was a graduate assistant under Dave Aranda at Wisconsin and also worked with Conklin at Florida International.

With Conklin and Siefkes working together the past two years to run the Terriers defense, the unit helped Wofford to a pair of Southern Conference titles and playoff appearances.

Siefkes is a Wisconsin-La Crosse undergrad and holds a Master’s from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Me likey

They are doing exactly what they should do for a "green" defensive coordinator. Baker with DC experience in P5 and this guy with FCS DC experience.

Not to mention Andre Carter, who is a very smart guy and has a football coach father and played under some great defensive coaches.

Should be a great brain trust leading our defense.

I love going to FCS and getting guys with coordinator experience to come here snd be analysts for a year or two. It’s a great way to get a look at some young guys and see if they are worth hanging onto or coming back to when we have on-field openings.

Agreed. Win-win for both parties.

So looks like Sam Siefkes and Daronte Jones crossed paths at UW then?

That's exactly the way you should do it. That's how you build continuity and identify rising stars.

This guys has ties to Aranda and Jones. I have to assume that Jones wanted this and that's why it happened. great to see coach O listening to the guys he hires.

As long as every knows their roles, there should not be a problem. This guy worked with Aranda and Jones at Wisconsin. i think it's a great hire.

Yes. There should only be 1 coach, period, on the whole staff. Simplifies things.

The biggest and most successful programs have armies of analysts. They do film scouting, gameplanning, etc. and are truly vital to elite levels of success.

Most people here likely remember the story about Kiffin (while at Bama) telling Orgeron about all the prep work the shadow staff at Bama does and saying something along the lines of it being invaluable in beating our asses.

This guy could turn out to be as critical to next year’s D as Brady was to the 2019 O.

Well, you have your Executive Chef, your Sous Chef, line cooks, dish washers, etc. You need everything for a kitchen to function at optimum performance.

Wait, what?

He's an analyst not a coordinator in charge of redesigning our entire defense.

This guy goes and eats at competitor restaurants, takes notes, then brings that information back to the Executive Chef to let him learn from it and improve his own menu.

I think I drew that analogy out too far
