Cranford is the only guy on the roster that has a chance to play SS at this level and he hasn’t gotten the chance the last 2 years to show any consistency. He’s better than his stats defensively but not a good hitter. Bianco has a shoulder issue. And Thompson hasn’t been hitting shite either

So why not give Cranford the shot and improve the defense? Hitting wouldn't take much of a dropoff. (rhetorical)
