You're right, read the title of the thread wrong. My mistake.

If we take out all of the non conference games this season except Wisconsin (not counting bowl game) where would the defense rank in the SEC and nation this year?

It's pretty hilarious to see the usual suspects in here acting like they love Chavis because it's obvious they are just happy he said something that reflevts negative on miles. Not hard to see that.
This is the part I don't get. Has he been quoted by anyone? The only sources in the one article were from sources close to LSU, not necessarily Chavis.

Given that he is human and has the right to toot his own horn about his work with the defense, it is pretty amazing that he hasn't been quoted with a single disparaging remark to date.

I would say it'd be about the same, assuming you are ranking the rest of the SEC with the same criteria (removing cupcake games from schedule)

Maybe the offense should pull their weight more often. Because LSU D gave up less than 20 ppg.

in loses they gave up 29 points a game.

And let Bama drive the field to win the game

Also the TOP went way up in towards the end of the season, and you can't say the defense didn't benefit from that.

I hope he enjoys putting his team on the field for 75% of the game.

Can we take out the 1500 yards the offense gained from those 3 games? That might be pretty unbelievable. It looks like 600 yards of passing in those games.

"Finished 8th in defense in country"

oh yea , and the reason is that we played several pansy teams which artificially inflated our defense numbers

Did number of points go up towards the end of the season?

You make it sound like we are the only program playing directional U schools.

So did most other Power 5 schools.

of our 5 loses you can settle 3 on the defense and Chavis as much as you can the offense.

Miss St, Alabama and Notre Dame.

Auburn is on both, and Arkansas was on the offense.

But when the offense gives you the lead with 50 second to go, they have done their job.

Personally I and a lot of paying fans wish these pansy teams would just play other pansy teams like it used to be 10-15 years ago and then we could brag about the real offense and defense statistics

We had the lead because Alabama gave us the ball at the 2 yard line. The defense held Alabama, which sported one of the best offenses in the country this year, to just 13 points. The offense started with the ball numerous times between our own 30 and 40 yard line in the second half, and could barely even produce a first down.

What's more reasonable - to ask the defense to hold Alabama to less than 13 points, or to ask the offense to produce more than 13 points (3 of which were gift wrapped)?

Chavisit was the best coach at LSU. Plain and simple. He's gone and now everyone here thinks he sucks. If he hadn't left and there was a thread bitching about Chavis and calling for him to be fired the punpers like yourself would be spouting off stats about having the #1 defense in the SEC.

Alabama: 13 points in regulation.
Notre Dame: Horrible defense, yet we only score 28 because of inept passing game.
Auburn: Offense scores 7. We were never going to win that game with defense.
Miss State: Love how the pumpers are using Harris' garbage time to let the offense off the hook.

The offense underperformed in nearly every game this past season. Our defense looked human at times. Excelled at other times.

I really don't know why I am even bothering to respond to your stupid thread but anyway...

The fact that you praise Les and laud how he is trying to improve our offense while in the same post saying this:
quote:

everybody in the world including the mailman knew Chavis was playing the wrong guy at MLB and it was destroying the defense.

is just awesome.

These were the same individuals that were making excuses for Chavis earlier in the year, citing our exceptional youth on defense.

Now, though, it seems that youth didn't actually matter...

Yeah, I don't consider this season to be a success on the defensive side of the ball.

Offense did okay in the second quarter. Defense gave up almost 300 yards in the 3rd quarter alone.
