nobody has provided any evidence of Perkins or his camp making those demands

Unless Perkins or BK say something on the record, which is unlikely, I don't know what other evidence could be uncovered.

all we’ve had is people on the Rant saying this happened.

Also reported by Moscona and other local reporters based on off-the-record conversations with people "in the know", FWIW. You can decide how reliable their info is, but it's not just coming from the Rant

I’ve heard Mascona say it could be what happened but nothing definitive. Not saying he hasn’t said for sure, I don’t catch his show everyday but he has known to embellish and go off on theoretical rants that make no sense and aren’t true.

If Perkins plays the Star or a star/spy hybrid Saturday, I don’t think it necessarily means he’ll stay in the same spot all season. With SC’s lack of playmaking WRs and their QB not being a great passer, but a threat to run, Perkins playing there against them seems perfect.

It may not be for everybody else we play. Baker may just have to get really creative and move him around and create a different role for him for each week. Some games may be more Star, some more spy, some back inside at LB, and some may be as just a situational edge rusher. Very excited and intrigued to see how he does this weekend.

Why wouldn’t you? We have direct quotes from Perkins and Kelly yet you’re more inclined to believe a rant rumor?

and I don't think any run a base 3-3-5

I suggested running a 3-3-5 for 8 or so obvious passing downs per game to get Perkins playing the traditional OLB he excelled in his freshman season and able to blitz from different gaps.

That said, there’s a reason no one runs this as a base defense, especially without a true NT. We would get run on relentlessly. It can only be used as a wrinkle to create favorable blitz situations.

Not it’s not

A Hybrid OLB is basically the same thing as a Star. It’s a box safety role. The difference is what the schemes we ran last year and this year demand from the role.

No you’re wrong, Star is not the Sam position, the Jack LB is

Jack was a fricking stand up DE labeled as a 3-4 OLB in House’s defense. Come on, man.

My point is that Baker's defense rarely utilizes a Sam linebacker so Star is "his version" of a Sam, that isn't technically 100% correct but it's a dumbed down version. House's defense obviously did utilize a Sam and Perkins played in that role for the majority of the 2023 season.

Some people here are propping themselves up on semantics (Madking). Perkins didn’t play a traditional Sam role last year. No one plays a Sam today outside of run downs, or if you play an option or extremely run-heavy team. The coaches talked about 4-3 and Sam last season, but anyone with sense knows the role Perkins was playing. He was a hybrid like Jacoby Stevens. He was playing as a Box Safety, which explains why he spent so much time in coverage. Those coverage responsibilities are why teams rarely keep a 3rd LB on the field in a 4 down scheme.

This isn’t about where the fricking Star lines up. It’s about the role. It is also a hybrid Safety role with responsibility centered around the box, but also still involving a lot of coverage on pass downs.

And then just now acknowledged that Star and Sam are two very different positions. So him playing Star this year is not the same as him playing Sam last year.

It’s a similar role for a similar player type. The difference isn’t in the semantics, but how two different DCs use them.

I'm not sure what that poster's issue is, he comes off as very emotional and slightly unhinged. He is also constantly bashing LSU's coaching staff because he believes himself to be more intelligent. Weird behavior.

Still getting used to Baker's defense but from what I can tell, at a very high level, House's Sam is basically the same as Baker's Star, thus Perkins will be playing the same "position" as he did the majority of last season.

The major difference seems to be that Baker moves his Star around more than House did with his Sam, Baker also brings more pressure with his Star where House dropped his Sam in coverage more.

My only concern is the extra weight that Perkins has added to play inside.

That plays on the strong side opposite the Star player. This isn’t hard unless you’re ignoring common sense and basic football terminology to make an argument.

I think a good idea for Louisiana fans is that the saints play Alonte Taylor in an in the box role and he has 3 sacks last game lol

I think we wanted Perkins to be Hooper.

It’s just not working.

it makes you wonder why it takes coaches so long to see what the world can see? But, but, at least they are seeing it and changing.

We run a 4-2-5

we wanted him in every play, and when he was just pass rushing he wasn’t great on power run plays or short yardage

Last year teams would just send him out wide and he would be in coverage vs around thenLOS.

So I get the idea of trying to get him to be one of our 2 linebackers. and last year we had so many teaching issues I even gen trying it with a new coach and system
