The offense isn't even close to being good enough to beat Bama, we're running the same damn plays, over and over and over. Until the last drive how many times did we actually throw the ball downfield? All these bubble screens aren't going to do shite against Bama. Yeah I know, we aren't playing Bama yet and it's the first game of the year. The same thing was said the last 4 years. Eventually the vanilla offense has to be recognized as LSU's true offense. I wouldn't be worried if we were trying things, but we're not, we're doing the same shite we've been doing. There's no logic/rhythym to our passing game, I get the feeling we have about 3 or 4 passing plays and we just throw them in here and there between all the dives and hope they work, there's no strategy to it.

Get out of my head dude..said about the same thing in another thread. AMEN

just keep running it

maybe it'll work against bama this year

Serious question...

I didn't watch every Bama game last year, but those that I did, their O was almost a mirror image of ours...run, run, run, occasional pass.

Maybe I missed a few games where they went all pass happy to get the QB some experience.

But from what I saw, Bama in '11 was a run-first O until the nat'l champ game.

If you were a Bama fan instead of an LSU one, would you have been bitching about their run first mantra last year?

And did you forget that we beat Bama in November without a passing game?

I hated the loss on 1/9 as much as anyone...and I agree it looks like we have some kinks to work out...but this over-whelming pearl-clutching over running (literally) over a cupcake and how "OMG WE'LL NEVER BEAT BAMA!!!" shite after one fricking game makes our fanbase look like bitches.

Thank you Hot Carl... I agree with you 100%...

I would like to add one thing...
Didn't any of you sky is falling tards notice the double move pass play that should have been a TD but was called back on a penalty...did it ever occur to you that throwing several bubble WR screens was setting that play up?
No? Of course you didn't... All you are looking for is stupid reasons to bitch.

Tonight, Bama threw the ball 2- times for less than 200 yards. Do that vs. anyone else in the SEC, that's just not gonna cut it bro

Mett looked really good when the coaches let him throw it down the field. I saw him go through his progressions and look at different receivers on one 3rd down early in the game. That's the first time I've seen that since 2007.

Running game is and will be solid.

O line needs to work on pass protection.

D needs more live game action as will mesh as the season goes forward.

Mett needs to be in a pure play action passing attack with these rbs

And not run 35 WR screens per game? frick you, Ryno. Next game, EVERY offensive play will be a WR screen, and they'll keep switching sides cause that'll confuse the frick out of the opposing D. We're talking tens of yards of offense per game people. Championship!!!!

I'm no expert but it looked like Mett put the ball into very tight spots even on his screens where many of them were close to being deflected/picked off. Maybe his accuracy is that good or maybe our receivers had trouble getting separation but he's going to be seeing much better defensive athletes down the road and that could be problem.

The forced pass at the goal line was awful. Mett is already an upgrade and will only get better. But what you see in his first game is that he is immobile and takes a long time to find receivers. It's not always the OL's fault.

What I take from this thread is that many here are a bunch of whinny bitches and two many here have no clue why things are done a certain way but they act like they do.

And then all of the sudden you meet the team you can't run for 300 yards on and find out your fricked. And the worst part is you try it against that team a second time and find out yep you're still fricked.

I laughed because its true.

I dont think we make it this year, its early, but last year was our year. Just got shafted in the other team getting a mulligan. Some very talented players on D, but they are young. In this league, the d has to stay strong, but teams with a qb will pass on us.

Need to watch again, thought running was good but didnt really watch oline, which is what i will do after work this morn.

Oh and frick whichever moron said Kwon wasnt going to play this year.

Selling the run on a play action pass has to be worked on. With the LSU ground game, play action pass should give several passing options downfield....but you have to actually fake the run. Mett needs a little seasoning in that department.

The defense missed Brockers. Too many up the gut runs for a cupcake team. That can and should be corrected over time.

I still say the reason we were undefeated in the regular season last year had to do with our first opponent - Oregon. The Tigers had to practice hard, prepare for the hurry up (conditioning), and start quick. This kept the team running on all cylinders from fall camp....to the opener....and lasted all year. It doesn't look like we had the same intensity. But that is understandable due to the inferior opponent. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers clean up the penalties and mistakes going into the Washington contest.

We'll be fine. The passing game will sharpen to compliment an outstanding ground attack. The defense needs a few games to gel. I see good things in the future!!!

1. QB play: The TV analyst seemed to think that Mett did not have intuition of his pocket being in collapse mode, and should have hit the deck and not taken 2 of the hits.

IMO: Mett threw into trouble a couple of times that could have been picked off, one in which the defender was hopping mad he missed it.

2. The DBs and LBs are young, we knew that.

3. I think Mett can improve a lot.
He looked pretty good at the end of the game.

Mett has a high upside. that arm is AMAZING.

4. O B jr is fabulous. The WRs are pretty good.
