Matt House deserves so much credit for out-scheming Leach. 2nd half adjustments were what we've always begged for.

Daniels athleticism is unparalleled. He can turn a busted play into a 9 yard gain with his legs and out run corners to the edge. With that said - his lack of pocket presence, poor mechanics and piss poor field vision are going to cost us some games.

Frankly the game shouldn't have been as close as it was but if we're behind the sticks with Jayden we're screwed. Defense was outstanding but turnovers, missed wr's, inaccurate throws kept State in the game. He may be the best option for now but if we don't utilize our WR's more, this team will never reach its full potential.

I hate any scheme that doesn't get Jack Bech more reps. If he's hurt fine, if not then there has to be more 4 and 5 wide concepts. I hate seeing John Emery run routes with Bech on the bench, that's poor use of your talent.

Special teams coordinator has to be fired. I don't care who his dad or grandpa is. Punt returned doesn't know when to leave the ball alone, several kicks almost blocked, kicking the ball out of bounds. Awful, awful coverage on kicks and punts.
He has to go.

Will Campbell just continues to be solid and Emery Jones looks like he should lock down the other tackle spot. One busted block but you could make the argument the Center didn't have the right guys identified. We finally got two young stud tackles and both from Louisiana to boot.

Baskerville is clearly comfortable and he's playing at a different speed than our other LBers right now. He trust himself and it shows.

Harold Perkins is just oozing with athleticism. He's big, strong snd fast. He's aggressive and right now he's the most physically gifted football player that wears LSU colors except for maybe Maason Smith.

Perkins and Baskerville have to be your starters.

Jay Ward is an all-sec level safety right now. I'd make an argument for him vs anyone else in the conference.

BJ's potential has been realized. Speed, great hands and ridiculous bend. Kids a first rounder and will be all conference this season. I think he's the best pass rusher in the SEC not named Will Anderson

Mekhi Wingo may be our best DT. Very, very high motor with violent hands.

the defensive improvements are a breath of fresh air and looks like LSU's defense already with a bunch of transfers.

My biggest complaint by far is special teams. They're a massive liability currently and it shouldn't be. There's too much talent to not be able to field a decent coverage team

I agree with all this especially Your take on Daniels and special teams.
My concern is Daniels has played a ton and I don’t see him improving at this point.
ST feel shaky everywhere…nothing in the return game, poor coverages, bad decisions, all FG seem to be very close to being blocked…no positives on ST at all.

Agree, Matt and the defense better have gotten the game ball. They played their arse off. Polian needs to be just our recruiting coordinator because he’s pretty rotten at S/T. Daniels is a one read QB and this offense is a work in progress. I was concerned early but they certainly took it to MSU in the second half.

The poor special teams play must be a symptom of a team that had very poor depth going into spring and still lacks numbers.

Fixable or is it just what it is? If that light bulb can go off, the offense could be lethal.

Agreed. I was staring at the freshman tackles quite a bit.

Emery is a grown man in run blocking. His feet are a little slow right now in pass blocking but I think he's faster, with better feet, than a junior Austin Deculus.

Will looks like a sure fire future first rounder, barring injury.

Emery right now looks like a draft-able NFL guard. He's a true freshman.

They're both only going to get better.

To me it's fixable but honestly he's in his 4th year. He might just be what he is.

I have it hard to believe he's not seeing some of these wide open guys.

I wonder if his 10 INTs last year has him gunshy

ETA: I would go lateral passing game with him and get him on the move. Run crossers, outs and slants to him and his vision and not ask him to see the whole field.

Pretty much exactly what we did on 4th down when he missed a wide open Brian Thomas at the sticks....

Thanks. Great post.
If Bech still has shin splints then that may be the problem. I never could get healed of mine when I ran track and you’re about 85% when you have them.

Agreed. Good post with lots of reasonable points.

I don’t think there is a solution to the QB situation though. Daniels has his flaws but clearly gives the team a better chance to win than Nussmeier.

Special teams play has been very disappointing. It’s the one area where previous squads were clearly better.

If Polian is so good at recruiting, roster management, scouting, and finding players, clearly he can have a position with the team as a director of player personnel or something. But there should be a better coach in charge of special teams.

Naw frick that. Look at the roster. I have no clue who you are but I bet you could build a decent coverage team with that roster.

Kick and punt standard coverage is the most basic thing in the world to teach.

Stay in your lanes- that's it.

There's no discipline, the blocking scheme has glaring holes on field goals, the punt returners literally don't know what to do.

Bud theres an all American WR on this team that's projected to be a top 5 pick and we have a true freshman walk on returning kicks.

fricking excuses.

It is what it is, he’s been in college football for 4 years now. He’s our best option right now but it will cost us down the road. He missed numerous guys wide open because he didn’t “see” the field and a few were touchdowns.

Daniela is a Saturday QB. He will never be a Sunday QB. His job is to get us through this season wilt a respectable record while this o line grows up and Walker Howard gets ready.

This team appears to be in great physical condition as well. They wore down Ms. St. on both sides of the ball last night. We appeared to get stronger as the game went on. You could see them wilting as they realized we were actually playing faster at the end of the game than the beginning.

Daniels just can’t seem to see open receivers, and when he does he misses. His legs are awesome and save us a lot of the time though. He seems to panic out there after his first read, he needs to learn to relax and make his reads.

It seems like there are walk-ons all over the place on special teams. It used to be that several starters were often out there covering kicks. I didn’t know who any of those guys were last night.

Some fans have such an odd fixation with the fifth WR on the depth chart

Agree with all that.

This defense is salty. Oh how I've longed for the says of a disruptive defense. Feels very 2010ish
