so this is basically a travel ball tournament? how/why would the stats count? seems like it's just an exhibition, doesn't it require some sort of NCAA sanctioning?

At 14-19 and without a conference title to their credit, the Titans are ineligible for the NIT and NCAA Tournament. However, Davis could still break Maravich's record if Detroit is invited to a postseason event such as the CBI or The Basketball Classic, which allows teams with records below .500 to compete. Detroit competed in The Basketball Classic last season after exiting the Horizon League Tournament with a 14-15 record.

Good. The guy had more seasons, way more games and a 3 point line on his side.

How many points was he short?

Anyone who would claim that this other fella was the goat would be questioning reality. College is 4 years, not 5.

So he'll break it after they go to the scrub tournament. Great, more seasons, more games, 3 point line and a consolation consolation tournament that didn't exist not long ago. The coach dad clearly made this his mission in life.

I would not have counted
It personally. In fact for as many games as Davis played compared to Pete just shows how incredible Pete really was. Someone may break it someday for total points, but I will say this… there are a few records that will never be touched like Cy Young’s wins and UCLA and 7 straight titles and nobody will ever come close to averaging over 40 ppg for three straight season in college. Never.

Give The Pistol some Air Jordans, 5 years, a three point line and this record would be so absurd no one would even believe it. I barely believe 44 ppg

3 point line

Has anyone ever gone back and looked at his games to see how many of his shots were from what is now 3-pt distance??

Seems like they would at least credit him with that many 'extra points' when comparing to later scorers with the 3 pt rule.

He's got to have had a dozen or so scores from what is now 3-pt territory.
