Linehan: How are you feeling about it now?

I know there were some posters who just felt kind of meh about the hiring of Scott Linehan as LSU's passing game coordinator and a lot of that seemed to be from his time with the Cowboys, however as many here have said, its likely Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones werent giving him free reign.
Dude is a spread guy so we arent going back to Les Miles' offense and Linehan isnt even here to run the offense, just simply add some more nuances to it.
I'm sure this video has been posted here before but its pretty good:
LSU: Linehan's HELLA AGGRESSIVE SPREAD Offense- Top Billin
These are some interesting quotes I found in regard to Linehan from various articles:
In my opinion, Linehan is more than qualified to be the OC at LSU much less the PGC and I cant see how bringing him in doesnt keep our offense going in a good direction.
The only knock I've seen on Linehan is that he was too easy on players while the head coach of the Rams, something he wont have to worry about at LSU.
The only negative I can see is that we may be looking for a new PGC once again if 2020 goes off relatively well.
To me, this entire thing depends on Brennan's progression and how well E and Linehan "gel" as O has said Linehan will be handling most of the redzone/third down calls as Brady was said to in 2019.

These are some interesting quotes I found in regard to Linehan from various articles:
quote:
Linehan’s last college experience came as the receivers coach and offensive coordinator for John L. Smith’s Louisville Cardinals from 1999-2001. His Louisville attacks averaged 36, 33 and 30 points per game, which usually had them near the top 20 nationally in scoring (it was a very different time) with quarterbacks Chris Redman and Dave Ragone.
His background is mostly as in working with receivers, which fits the role Joe Brady served in. And while it’s easy to default to his background as “pro-style,” his offenses have always been somewhat spread, or at least one-back, centered.
quote:
Louisville never scored fewer than 30 points per game while Linehan was the coordinator from 1999 to 2001. The fledgling program at a basketball school won consecutive C-USA championships in 2000 and 2001, and Linehan's offense helped produce future NFL players like Super Bowl champion wide receiver Deion Branch and quarterback Dave Ragone.
"Not only did he know about (the spread), he knew what it looked like through a quarterback's eyes," said UTEP defensive coordinator Mike Cox, Linehan's teammate at Idaho who coached alongside him at Idaho, Louisville and in the NFL. "I think we got those two things together and that made him very valuable."
quote:
The Detroit Lions are another young team that has started to deploy an Air Raid offense. That's likely because offensive coordinator Scott Linehan's experience in the system dates back to his days as Louisville's offensive coordinator, where he was Urban Meyer's mentor.
quote:
Leading the league in pass attempts usually means you like to spread it out, and spreading it out was what the Lions enjoyed doing in 2011. They threw the ball a league-high 666 times. The offense was on the field for 1,197 plays, and it deployed three wide receivers or more on 697 plays.
In my opinion, Linehan is more than qualified to be the OC at LSU much less the PGC and I cant see how bringing him in doesnt keep our offense going in a good direction.

i was always fine with it, because i'm not a blithering idiot

I like that he has a ton of experience working with receivers.
This was an area where I felt Brady had a vast but underappreciated impact.

The people who were complaining are the same ones that complain no matter what. They're not even willing to give it a chance before complaining. Call it blind loyalty, but I just trust every decision that O makes at this point. He's earned that right.

I put it on the development of the OL. IF they can protect MB, he'll be fine. The play-makers are there at every level: WR, TE and RB. The coaches are there to scheme and put the players in position to succeed.

Very important, I should have included this.

He’s already on staff and is the next Joe Brady, his name is Tyler Tettleton. Pundents can talk about the staff falling apart.......but in reality it upgraded.....

How do I feel?
I feel like LSU just won a national championship and had the greatest season all time by a QB.
Its not possible to repeat that in the 2020 season.
I trust Coach O, but what happens if he loses a few games next season? Are you going to be going after his job?

LSU has lost at least 1 game in all but 3 seasons going back to 1908.

Sure, it's possible. Not likely. Not even probable, but possible. Obviously, winning the championship is more likely than Brennan eclipsing Burrow who had one of the best seasons by any college quarterback ever, ever.

The Negatigers are secretly waiting for that second loss (or, hell, a few ugly wins) to start calling for his job. Negatigers are the universal constant. Frankly, we would feel lost without them.

No comment until the season. We haven’t even played a game, I couldn’t tell you if this is a good or bad hire with zero results to date

But so is this.

Let's all wait to see Spring Game to even start to have a somewhat informed opinion

WTF?
I find this rather interesting.
Where did this bit of information come from?

It’s made up, Urban Meyer was never at Louisville. He was at Notre Dame when Linehan was at Louisville.

It was a Bleacher Report article, the writer misspoke by insinuating that Meyer was at Louisville coaching with Linehan. Here's a quote from Meyer:
quote:
In 1999, Dan Mullen was my GA at Notre Dame. John L. Smith was the coach at Louisville and Scott Linehan was the offensive coordinator. I started watching them on film and said I want to go study them. He said sure go ahead. We ended up staying four days and had to go buy a toothbrush. I was so enamored with the style of play. That was spread the field and be extremely aggressive. The biggest issue was how to handle pressures. The tighter the formation, the more pressures. It's really a numbers game. It was a different philosophy I had never really…after that, both Dan and I really attacked it. I started getting phone calls about being a head coach and thought about what I would do offensively.

Urban Meyer’s offense, in his words

quote:
While at Notre Dame, he began meeting with his intellectual mentor (his actual mentors were guys like Lou Holtz), Scott Linehan. (Yes, that Scott Linehan.) He was hired as Head Coach of Bowling Green, and decided that -- in years that just happened to be the rather formative ones for the spread -- he would have his staff learn at the masters' feet.
quote:
So, eschewing typical coaching visit hotspots like Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, and the like, Meyer directed his staff to make a Midwest pilgrimage to learn from the likes of: John L. Smith and Scott Linehan at Louisville;

Agree with HC87 here, if the oline gives Miles time he will be prolific. He throws a beautiful long ball
