I just showed that its CHEAPER to park at UGA
And I just showed why its cheaper to park at UGA and how it doesn't compare to LSU.
You seem like an entrepreneur. Go construct a parking garage right off of campus at the North Gates and undercut the shite out of LSU.

I dont care why its cheaper.. ITS CHEAPER.
Its also cheaper at Auburn.
Question is.. Who is more expensive than LSU? If this is the first season to charge then why start at an absurd price point? Why not start low and move up when you figure out where the breaking line is?

In addition, we intend to invest funds back into the tailgating experience. As tailgating in the heart of campus has grown in recent years, so have the demands on clean-up costs, restroom facilities and maintenance of the appearance of campus for the other six days of the week.
Let's translate this into non-business, non-PC language shall we?
"Every year, more and more people show up on campus, who don't give a shite about campus, because they never set foot in a classroom at LSU, or didn't care that it's an institution of higher learning, but instead just came to town because they were looking for the biggest and best party. They showed up, ran rough shod over the campus and its facilities, and left campus covered in tons of trash, just like throwing the Mickey D's bag out of your car window at a stop sign.
You want to treat campus like it's just a party? Heeeeeeeeeeeeere's your cover charge.
Have a great day."

Joe states in his letter that the Athletic Department pays all scholarship costs including both resident and non-resident fees and these fees are projected to increase at least 10 percent every year over the next several years. Sounds like a valid reason to generate more revenue until you read LA R.S. 17:1791 Subpart G - Non-Resident Athletic Scholarships.
It Reads - No student in any state college, university, or institution of higher learning who is granted an athletic scholarship at such institution and who is not a resident of this state shall be or required to pay any tuition or fees in an amount in excess of that which is charged students who are residents of this state. In common language, student athletes who are on athletic scholarship are not charged non-resident fees. The non-resident fees can go up 100%, and the athletic department does not have to pay these fees in the form of increased scholarship costs.
To justify the reason for a price increase due to an increase in student fees that the athletic department will not have to pay seems like BS.
What else in his letter is BS

So you are saying he is full of shite..
Who here didnt think this was just a way to make added revenue??
Anyone that really thinks we are doing this because of state budget cuts needs their head examined.

LSU will lose money for Western Kentucky. Please budget accordingly
might be the worst home schedule in years .. and i thought 2009 sucked .. 6 home games and two of them against FCS Northwestern State and the chronic losing streak that is Western Kentucky ?

Beginning next year, there will be a charge to park in most lots west of Highland Road on the LSU campus on football game days in order to offset financial losses caused by budget cuts to the university and to provide additional services to fans.
Can anyone elaborate on this?
Or does Joe think an extra 3 dozen port-o-cans = additional fan "services"?

Come on man. Since the budget cuts the AD now takes on all the costs of Tiger Band and some other school of music stuff, all costs associated with the cox center for student atheletes etc. The school has shifted costs to the AD. Are they probably gonna make a little extra-sure, but to act like the budget cuts arent what put this in motion at this particular time is asinine. If you dont like it pay a little more taxes, talk to bobby jindal, or park in kirby smith lot. In fact Id be willing to bet kirby smith is closer to the stadium than the hayfield lot is however there is less tailgating therefore less clean up costs.

Just because a nonresident student-athlete cannot be charged with fees in excess of resident fees does not mean that the athletic department funding the scholarship does not have to cover it.
I think the statute is saying that you cannot make a nonresident student-athlete pay out-of-pocket for the fees in excess of those that the athletic department covers his resident teammates.
Essentially, an athletic department cannot ONLY cover resident fees and make nonresidents fork up the the difference. Just my interpretation and it may be incorrect, however I don't think Alleva intended to mislead anyone with that particular comment

So give 100% of all parking costs to LSU! Its LSU's land NOT the Athletic Department.
LSU's Athletic Department is not losing money. they arent thats a fact.
All those game day parking passes the AD sell should be LSU's profit not the AD. If they want to be separate entities in finance then the money for parking on LSU property should go to the university.
OR
LSU AD can CUT the 6 million they give to LSU each year which is more than any other SEC school. If LSU says the AD has to take on 1.6 million in extra spending then the AD should tell LSU we will 'donate' to you 4.4 million next year.. Have a nice day...

There is no logical argument for this plan. People can claim it's because the campus is trashed or whatever, but that's BS. The others saying "don't be cheap" or whatever are stupid also. Also, if you don't park in these affected areas, your opinion is worthless.
It's a money grab, a way for LSU to make a quick buck, plain and simple. People will spin it however they want, but that's what it is.

For one he talks of the cost of cleaning up the campus following gamedays. Does anyone know who does the cleaning? For years its been the inmates from Hunt's Correctional in St. Gabriel and according to The Reveille as of last year it still is. So whats the going wage for inmates?
quote:
The inmate crews are responsible for a number of tasks, such as construction, debris cleanup, mulching, trimming, raking, blowing sidewalks, painting, pressure washing, furniture moving, laying sod, irrigation work and football game and stadium cleanup.

they will lose money due to lack of concession sales and at the book store and Mike's gift shop. Very short sighted decision. Absolute no consideration for 2d and 3d order effects.

I would think the 7.5 Million LSU Athletics made from Bayou Country Fest would more than make up the 1.4 Million in budget cuts.
and we'll have bayou country fest again in May.
