This week we announced a change in game day parking procedures for LSU home football games. Beginning next year, there will be a charge to park in most lots west of Highland Road on the LSU campus on football game days in order to offset financial losses caused by budget cuts to the university and to provide additional services to fans.

Should we ask if the parking fees will be eliminated once the budget cuts are reinstated?

We were told Bayou Country would eliminate the need for additional increases in ticket prices/parking, etc...

This is just an easy way to get some cash without actually doing any research of ways to make the University more efficient. Just look at the salaries of the University administration AND the Athletic Department administration. At least the Athletic Department is self supporting. University administration is 100 percent overhead. Just check and see how many Associate Vice Chancellors, Assistants to the Vice Chancellor, Directors, etc. have been added in the last five (5) years. Then look at how many direct reports these people have. It's a joke. It's amazing how LSU cries every frickin' year about having no money when the adminstration position and salaries skyrocket and go unchecked. They take care of their own and piss on students, faculty, staff and University patrons Truth.

Do they post everyone's salaries? I think that could answer a lot of questions there. Let's assume that the cost of cleaning after tailgaters has gone, that's our own damn fault. When I left the game last Saturday the War Memorial was trashed. Not only is it piss poor that we can't pick up after ourselves, but it's pretty bad when you trash a memorial to our fallen heroes.

I am almost positive that he is referring to residents of the campus, not state.

People need to realize that LSU STILL has free parking, it is just not where they have been parking in the past. The decision is left with the fan:

$120-240 for your "traditional" spot, or moving for free. LSU will not win/lose more games if you are too cheap to pay the price to park in your superstitious spot.

I'm all for charging an excess littering fine.

Littering is $500 fine, right?

A few of the groups on the parade grounds deserve such a fine. However, the trash pickup contract this year has been less than previous years.

I don't know how'd they do it, but I'd love to see some of the people who litter get fined. If you don't respect the campus get out so someone who does can tailgate.

I've heard that about 25,000 people tailgate on Saturdays in the parking lots and don't go to the game. Maybe having to pay to park will cause some of them to stay home and make it easier for the ticket holders to find a place to park. Let's hope.

Ok someone correct me if I'm wrong on this; I'm going by what I've been told. The budget cuts equal to essentially reverting LSU's budget back to 2007 levels. If so what's so different 3 years later?

Was LSU is disrepair back in 2007? Was the school so bad back then that it caused the layoffs of a bunch of professors, canceling majors, etc.? Sounds more like budget mismanagement to me.

When you remove yourself from the emotional aspect, that is EXACTLY the way it is. There will still be free parking on campus. Your spot will still be there. You will now have to make a choice. I am sorry, but it is what it is.

our tailgate has already moved twice because of parking no longer being free.

how many times will they run us off?

You should be good at it by now

Interesting way of looking at it, to say the least.

I know it requires some ingenuity, but there are spots on campus that are still good for tailgating and they are free. Will your buddies be able to drive up and park for free without any problems? Maybe not, but that is a convenience. At the end of the day, LSU has not infringed on the rights of ANYONE. Like I said, remove yourself from the emotional nature of this topic and you will see that it is dumb. If you truly will not park in the lot anymore, I can assure you that someone will. LSU will go on and prosper.

This is not necessarily directed at you:

The self-righteous nature of most in this thread is appalling. LSU owes you nothing. If you do not want to pay, park somewhere else. If you will not go to the games, someone else will. If the $120 will put you over the edge next year, you were not going to make it anyway and LSU games should be the least of your concern. Everyone is bitching about their wife or kids or grandparents or buddies not being able to just drive up and tailgate. They feel as though it is a tradition and LSU is stealing it from them. I say this - If your buddy/wife/kids/grandpa will not pay $20 to spend the afternoon tailgating and drinking and partying with friends, then said person was not having as much fun as you thought. To be frank, your tailgate was not worth $20 to them. I know your ego hurts when you read something like that, but you will get over it and continue coming to games and paying the money. If you don't, there is a line of people waiting to take your place who also think they are Mr. Stud Tailgater, yet they are obviously not as self-righteous as you are, so LSU will be better off anyway! /rant.

You seem like an educated guy. Care to take a stab at my point? This is being drilled on the fans due to budget cuts, but if the budget was simply rolled back to 2007 levels how is this legit?

Suddenly in 3 years LSU is now falling apart and needs to be propped up by charging for parking? Seriously, this is nothing more than a money grab, and misdirection using budget cuts as the reason.

It's gonna be fun to see coaches in virtually every sport get raises next year, not to mention administrators

If that is your beef with LSU, then that is fine. Seriously. You are probably right and that is inexcusable IMO to mislead the fans. The problem is that only 1% of the people bitching are complaining about that particular issue.

Now, if this new revenue ends up netting LSU even better facilities, coaches, and players, inevitably leading to more wins and championships, then it would be even more fruitful. In fact, that is what Alleva should have said. However, if Alleva would have come out and said, "Your parking fees will go directly to the academic side of LSU that is ultimately responsible for the university's existence, you would hear people bitching across this board about how they are only here to watch a football game and do not want to pay for the school. You are naive if you think that most people are bitching about the use of the funds.

At the end of the day, for LSU, it is about money, you are right.

At the end of the day, for LSU fans, it is about convenience.

LSU will win this battle almost invariably.
