CU fan here. There are a lot of threads on the board about the LSU offense.

What are the strengths of the LSU defense? I know you have a couple of fantastic DBs, and that edge rusher was reeking havoc on OU Saturday. But what is the overall feel from the board?

What changed from earlier in the season when teams ran pretty effectively on your team?

I just want to be the first to tell you this.

This whole season every team has tried to pick a part LSU and say: they aren't good here or they struggle here. Insert Ole Miss game when the QB ran for 200 yards when we were up by 20.

Every time. EVERY TIME. We whooped their arse.

Texas
Auburn
Florida
Alabama
UGA
OU.

Clemson played Texas AM and OSU.

We will beat clemson by 20

The only team that really ran effectively on us was Ole Miss. (and Bama in the 2nd half)

Our biggest issues were tackling and giving up big plays. We seem to have corrected those issues as of late. A lot of that was probably due to injuries and replacing Devin White. Got healthy and more comfortable and the D got better.

Ole Miss, Bama and Texas each had 7 points of offense at halftime...These are the games that most people have referenced as the demise of our defense.

So I'd say our strengths are our back 7 and our interior defensive line. Honestly if you can attack us on the edges (and hope that we are off on contain) you may have some success.

Unfortunately for Clemson...I don't think our defensive weaknesses are enough for them to keep up with our offense. I expect Burrow and our receivers to basically name their score.

The defense was fixed after the Ole Miss game, LSU has destroyed everyone in their path since.

Just for fun-because I know it doesn't mean anything- let's compare Texas A&M stats.

I get what you're saying, but the D did let both of those teams back into the game.

The Ole Miss game was never in question, so while I understand how giving up 38 points can be concerning, I don't see why people bring it up so much. We were scoring at will coming off of a huge emotional win and lost focus for a bit.

#18's name is Chaisson. He'll be the one coming from the edge to sack your QB.

He gets held on nearly every play.

Our DBs are not just great, they are superb.

Defensive line is solid.

We held OU to their fewest number of yards since 2015.

Talent.
Several future NFL 1st rounders. First part of the season, d/t injuries and monkeying with scheme, we underperformed our talent level.

With Divinity's return at LB (and barring practice injury), this will be the first time this year we've fielded a full defensive roster of healthy players.

Last few games, we've started to gel.

Pretty typical 3-4 style defense. Big linemen that are more run stuffers than penetrators. Good speed at linebacker and an elite-ish pass rusher in Chaisson. We also bring in a few other specialized pass rushers on 3rd down, and will bring a safety down into the box.

The CB spots are typical DBU. Pretty much lock down, on island type guys, but Aranda doesn’t rely on that heavily. He’s very content keeping 2 high safeties unless absolutely necessary. He’s been very picky and choosy about blitzing this year.

Our weakness has been against the stretch play due to some overagressive linebacker play early on but that has been addressed, and slot dB was a problem early but it’s been pretty well sealed up also.

My biggest concern against Clemson is the outside running game.

The last 5 games we've gave up less points than OSU has. And they were supposed to be the complete team

dang you guys are a sensitive bunch.

OK, you gave up an average of 35 pts to Tex, Vandy, Flo, and Ol Miss, none of whom strike fear into people when you are talking tough teams this year on offense.

Heck you gave up 20 to Arky which is 110th in scoring offense.

So, now go read my original post and reply

DL doesn’t provide much of a pass rush but are stout vs run

LBs played their best game of the year vs OU

18 Chaisson, 8 Queen, 6 Phillips are all nfl guys. Chaisson 1st Rd, the other two 2-3rd rd.

9 Brooks will come in on 3rd down to pass rush, as has 35 Clark recently

At Cb , 1 Fulton & 24 Stingley are top 5 cbs in LSU history.

Safety Delpit 7 will be a first round pick this year. 5 Vincent is also an nfl player

Aranda has almost two complete defensive teams now. They can interchange without much drop-off which enables the D to stay Fresh for every snap.
