What are the rules on drug testing?

Are they random or does every athlete get drug tested? Meaning all athletes, football, track, basketball, baseball, quidditch, etc.

Are these NCAA requirements or are they internal rules drafted by LSU, approved by the NCAA then enforced by the NCAA?

Weed isn’t tested for by the NCAA, only PED’s

We should spend all of our resources on testing our cyclist and endurance athletes. PED’s are rampant. I hear the rowing team looks like a group of Bigfoot’s (bigfeet?) in a boat. Also Ultimate is full
Of a bunch of crunchy, granola like patchouli smoking hippies. They need to be tested.

Leave football alone.

If it's anything like the corporate environment it is random. It's probably modeled after federal law Title 49 Part 199.

The thing about it is it doesn't have to be "random" per se. Test accordingly.

I am not sure if these rumors floating around have to do with a player getting drug tested or not. I am not sure exactly what the drug testing policy is, and if it's LSU or NCAA mandated.

I will just say this. If it is a drug testing issue, and if it is LSU regulated (meaning LSU picks the who and the when), then we have a BIG problem. Why would LSU compliance pick the week before the biggest football game to drug test?

Wasn't there also some sort of compliance issue with basketball players right before the Tennessee game last year? I don't think this is just a coincidence. And if this is the issue, it needs to be fixed right away. Woody being here was supposed to fix this.

Our compliance department has always been a thorn in the athletic department’s side. They seem to take some sick joy out of working against the AD and not with them. Saban effectively neutered them while he was at LSU. Woodward needs to do the same.

Yeah, I vaguely remember this incident.

It's like we have people in the compliance department that believe they will get brownie points from the NCAA by implementing random drug test right before the biggest games that have national implications. It's like geeks showing off.

It's restarted and needs to be reigned in. You never hear of these kind of issues from other schools.

Does anyone that posts on here actually know about the inner-workings of the AD and its interactions with NCAA compliance? I won't pretend to know. But I kind of get the sense that "compliance" has become some nebulous, all-encompassing boogie man who people can and will pin any negative news, or even negative, so-far-unfounded rumors, on.

At what point are players accountable for their actions?

Member when Woodward was clearing house a few months ago and it never happened?

Oh yea, that’s hard to justify when they are doing their job. Same reason LSU didn’t fire joe alleva. As an university you can’t do that type of stuff without cause.

True but then you’re giving Bama an obvious advantage

How is smoking weed an advantage?
Maybe an advantage in recruiting?

I would think players should be held accountable when caught taking money to sign, say $10,000 .

LSU is so stupid testing for something that the NCAA doesn't even care about. They are just trying to screw themselves, it is ridiculous.

If the rumors are true. I wouldn't recommend suspending Divinity cause it won't do anything other than hurt the team and hurt Divinity's chances to get into the NFL.

As there is nothing to be gained by suspending him cause he only has a few games as an LSU Tiger remaining. It's not like he is coming back again next season.

Not to mention, that if you cut him some slack, he will probably try to play harder. Don't destroy his final season when there is nothing to be gained by doing so. Let him play and enjoy what little time he has remaining at LSU.

Saban wanted to hedge because of Tua's status and asked the SEC to random drug test the whole football team, we might have to forfeit because of not having enough guys to field a team
