Let's suppose that LSU wallows in mediocrity for the next decade or two.

Nothing disastrous, just a cycle of 8-4, 9-3, and maybe the occasional 10 win season. Ed is long gone, but the next guy (and the next) fails to get any traction. In other words, we are the LSU of the 70's, 80's and mid-90's.

Could you handle this? Could you go about your lives and put football in the proper perspective? From reading this board, I'm convinced some of you would descend into madness.

Anyone that expects anything different at this point is just in straight denial. The current administration keeps bashing people over the head to show them they do not care about winning championships, yet most either don't want to see it or are just too stubborn to see it.

Mediocrity should be the expectation at Lsu for the foreseeable future, regardless of the head coach, until there is a systematic and thorough change of the Lsu administration.

we had some damn good teams over that span man. to color that 25 year period as mediocre is just not factual.

when a HC is fired it often results in multiple tries to find the "right" one. at EVERY school. check your history. it seems that, as we speak, Florida, FSU, Oregon, even Michigan are struggling to find "that" guy.

i'm pretty sure many have already began their descension. they have already looked into their crystal ball and know every thing about every thing.

Sure. I’d forget about following LSU football and only watch Tech football, while still attending some LSU baseball games. I already enjoy watching them. If 8-4 is good enough for LSU, Tech is more than capable of providing all my football enjoyment.

Yes. But If 1/9/12 didn’t put the football/life deal into perspective for the rest of you, nothing will.

You'd be surprised at how many people's entire lives revolve around LSU Football; an amateur level product played by 18-22 year old kids in which a few will actually make it to the professional level. There are even people who have never attended a single class at LSU who live and die by their football team.

I already have.

What kind of loser bases their life around what other people do in a game?

I see no reason to think this won’t happen. I’ll be a Tiger fan until I die. I can’t imagine not watching every football from start to finish. Here’s what will change for me. I have a 500 mile round trip to Tiger Stadium. I’ll go to fewer home games. I never tire of my experience in Tiger Stadium so ll need that fix every year. Instead of going to every home game I now only go to the SEC games or any quality opponent. That will change to boy going to a couple of games per year. I’ll each the rest on campus. I have enough LSU gear t last the next 10 years so the purchase of that will drastically drop.

Mid 90’s wasn’t 8-4 and 9-3 with an occasional 10 win season. That’s where we are now......mid 90’s was a cycle of 4-7, 2-9, etc. we had one ten win season, one nine win season and one seven win season. The rest were losers.

Ed O will likely be more of a 6-6 guy which is disastrous enough.

Cool. Another "are you man/sane enough to be a loyal LSU fan" thread.

How about we simply hire administrators who are committed to fielding an elite team and taking the necessary steps to do that? If they don't, we hold them accountable by replacing them with people who are?

This is what they sold us when they fired Miles. In hindsight, that whole episode looks like politics and self-interest.

Could you handle living a life of accountability and holding to your word?

Nobody really sold YOU anything. Did you attend a sales presentation? You're a fan, nothing more. Want to express your displeasure? Stop buying tickets. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure that they don't care what you or I or the media thinks.

20 years of mediocrity? Is that a reasonable hypo to put up for consideration?

When you young fellows get a little older, start a family and your career takes off, you will find happiness in other things other than LSU football.

You will realize there’s a big ole world to explore and experience instead of obsessing on a game that you have no control of.

I can handle it as long as I feel like the administration is trying to win. It's hard to identify up and coming elite coaches and hard to get established ones to change schools. It's a lot of luck and timing. So as long as I feel like the admin is doing all they can to get there then yes, i can handle it.

What I can't handle is the mind numbing mismanagement we've seen recently. It's hard enough to win when you're doing everything right, impossible when you're screwing up coaching search 101 back to back to back years.

They did make a pitch to us and people will stop buying tickets. I think they do care what the media or you or I think and they hope that we think 7 win seasons, minor bowls, maybe the occasional losing season are acceptable.

It takes an extraordinary level of contempt to hire O as HC and tell us they are serious about winning championships. If you are ok with complacency, sloth and corruption, that's your decision. I guess some of us want better and don't care what people like you think.

Yes, I get that. It was also just football when LSU fired Les Miles who was averaging 9 wins a year and replaced him with Ed O who was supposed to bring the team to a new level. Knowing there was no way anyone would possibly believe O was an elite coach, they promised to surround him with the best coordinators in the game, that we would take recruiting to a whole new level and compete for championships.

It's not "madness", "petty", "hateful" or any other negative adjective people are using to expect the AD and the HC to deliver. Further, when they don't deliver they shouldn't lie about what standards they've agreed to.

Both of those guys have made enough money and their buyout packages are so big that they are set for life even if they fail miserably. It is simply wishful thinking to believe that LSU will make the playoffs next year. It is naïve to think the program will get better with O as HC.

If LSU were to wallow in mediocrity for the next decade and everyone was ok with that result, explain to me why we fired Miles? Alleva's explanation was Miles had lost his edge and we needed someone to take us to the next level. The next level is a NY6 game, SEC championship, playoffs and NC. Other than using blind hope, explain to me how we get there and stay there with O as HC. We were consistently 9+ wins per year with Miles. O will struggle to achieve that.

It’s not the lack of success that bothers me. It’s the lack of trying to do what it takes to be successful.
